You’ve probably already twigged that thanks to the mom jean and loafer craze, fashion is celebrating all things ‘mumsy’ right now. Shapes that we would have avoided like the plague for fear of making us look too ‘mumsy’ in the past are now considered chic. Baggy sweatshirts and hoodies, high waisted roomy jeans, oversized everything, ugly sneakers and slipper mules are fast becoming our daily sartorial go-to.

This can all be very tricky to pull off though and the last thing we need to feel is ‘mumsy’. We want style that makes us feel current, not silly. Effortless, not try hard. So here are some of our favourite un-mumsy mum looks for this season!

Matchy pant suits

Day or night, this has to be one of the coolest trends around. Velvet, corduroy, striped, satin, wide legged, skinny, all are contenders. Wear yours with sneakers or heels, a blouse or a long loose tee. The matching trouser suit couldn’t be more versatile or more now!

Throwback to Corduroy

Bored of denim? Try the hottest trend on the block – corduroy. Play with shape and colour – it’s just so refreshing to be out of jeans for a while.

The Jumper dress

An easy, cosy, no brainer look for this season. What’s not to love about that? A longer length means you don’t need to wear over trousers and only need think about your footwear choice. Ankle boots and trainers work equally as well.

The Graphic Tee

Thanks to Gucci’s massive revival of the graphic tee, plain t-shirts just don’t cut it any more. There’s a gazillion to choose from, from hughstreet right up to designer. Here are just some of our favourites.

The Hoody

The good news is, we can keep our hoodies on all day if we so wish. Just add a tailored coat, and/or a pair of heels and you’re good to go (and I don’t mean to the gym).
I, for one, am making the most of this trend whilst I can.

The Straight Leg Jean

It’s safe to say we’re finally all out of the skinny jean phase – even if you’ve been fighting it (like I have), they just don’t feel right any more.
I’m such a fan of the straight leg jean – whether cropped or boot length, either are great. You might feel 15 again, but trust me it’s a good feeling.
