A baby carrier needs to do two seemingly simple things very well: keep your baby snug and supported, and remain comfortable for the person carrying them. BabyBjörn’s latest launch has been designed to do both while making it a little easier to get out of the house with a newborn.
Meet Baby Carrier Hold, BabyBjörn’s completely new carrier designed for babies from birth to around 18 months, with comfort, simplicity and everyday practicality at its heart.
Its standout innovation is a new integrated wraparound system. Rather than wrestling with complicated straps or wrapping techniques, Hold slips on much like a jacket and adjusts to different body shapes and sizes.
And when you’re holding a baby who has very definite opinions about being put down, anything that speeds up the process gets our vote.
Of course, keeping baby comfy is only half the story. Anyone who’s carried a growing baby around for any length of time will know that your own back and shoulders soon have something to say about it, too.
Baby Carrier Hold tackles this with a double-layered waist belt and padded shoulder straps, designed to spread baby’s weight more evenly and keep things comfortable as that tiny newborn turns into a surprisingly heavy little passenger.
It’s also adjustable from XS to XXL, which is really handy if you’re passing baby and carrier between parents or caregivers without wanting to spend ten minutes readjusting everything.
And while you’re feeling nicely supported, baby is too. Hold provides ergonomic support from birth to around 18 months, accommodating little ones from 3.2kg right up to 13.5kg.
Depending on their age and developmental stage, babies can be carried facing inwards or outwards, while Baby Carrier Hold is acknowledged as “hip healthy” by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute (IHDI) when used according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
The design was put through its paces before launch too, with more than 400 families testing Hold during development and providing feedback.
It’s a detail we like, because there’s only so much you can learn about a baby product in a design studio. Give it to hundreds of sleep-deprived parents attempting to leave the house with an actual baby, and you’ll soon discover what works.
Then come the little details that suggest someone at BabyBjörn understands newborn life rather well.
The new buckles have been designed to be silent, helping parents take the carrier off without an enormous CLICK announcing itself just as baby has finally fallen asleep.
There’s an integrated shade that offers protection while maintaining airflow and visibility, plus a built-in pocket for small essentials you want within reach.
Baby Carrier Hold comes in two fabric options, so you can choose the one that works best for you and your baby.
The brushed woven fabric is soft and cosy yet durable enough for everyday life, while the airy mesh is lightweight and breathable, allowing fresh air to circulate and helping both baby and wearer stay comfortable when things warm up.
All fabrics are certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, Class 1, and the carrier comes in four beautifully understated shades: Sand Grey, Light Green, Black and Cream.
