With Coachella over and done with and Glastonbury’s line up recently announced, this years festival fever is well and truly in the air! Whether you’re hitting the festivals with the kids or having some well deserved time out, here’s how to be fashion festival ready!
As a mum, you’ll have forgotten how to pack light, but this is a must for a festival and can be easily done with a little bit of careful planning.
Here’s the essential check list:
Don’t even think about taking your favourite Isabel Marant Dicker boots, you’ll wreck them. All you need is a pair of wellies, your trusty Birkenstocks and this summers must have, a pair of gladiators. Try these by Ancient Greek Sandals.
If you feel a little too old for daisy chains then opt for a cool cotton printed scarf to wear on your head. You’ll need to master the art of tying it first, but once you’ve figured it out, it’ll look fresher than a fedora. Eva Mendes makes it look effortless.
The printed palazzo pant is the hottest trend of the summer. They were made for festivals, replacing the maxi skirt. There are all sorts of great versions on the high street, but Monsoon have a cute pair. Just team with a cotton tank and bikini top.
Invest in a decent rain poncho for a festival. You’ll be glad of a waterproof, windproof, yet stylish cover up if it’s lashing down. Rainwave do a great capsule collection and whats more, they pack away in a small pouch, so you won’t even notice it in your bag.
COSY COVER UP
If it gets chilly, you’ll be desperate for something cosy and soft to wrap up in. I swear by Rails casual checked shirts. They have such a wonderful soft fluid hand feel and they work perfectly with the festival vibe. Take a look at the full selection here.
THE DENIM SHORT
Come rain or shine, the denim short is a festival must and luckily for us mum’s, the longer profile is in fashion. They look great with wellies or sandals, so it really is a no brainer.
Frame Denim, Isabel Marant Etoile and Alexa Chung for AG all have a great selection, but my advice? If you have a pair of jeans that you don’t wear much anymore, then it’s time to give them the chop for a cheap alternative. Here’s the length to go for!
The cross body is the only option that works for a festival. It not only looks the part, but allows handsfree and great security without having to worry about opportunists. Tan leather saddle bags are all the rage and my favourite of the summer is this authentic Moroccan leather one from high street store Phase Eight.
And finally, don’t forget to pack a bikini top, a pair of cosy socks and PJ’s for those chilly nights, sunglasses, sunblock and ear plugs!
