Serena Hood is Executive Fashion Director at British Vogue and easily one of the chicest people I know. Serena gave birth to her first daughter Honor a couple of months ago, so we caught up with her to find out how she’s getting on.

First and foremost, congratulations on your exciting news. How are you feeling, are you enjoying motherhood so far?

Motherhood… Now I understand what all of the fuss is about! It’s been a truly magical journey so far and amazing to watch them change everyday. There are definitely times when you’re exhausted or emotional but even those days you treasure.

Tell us your secret to looking so good during pregnancy, you looked glowing throughout.

I’m lucky in that I have freedom to pick and choose what I wear to work. During my pregnancy I generally bought things I would wear normally but in larger sizes. I invested in a few designer pieces that I could easily alter afterwards and supplemented my wardrobe with high street finds.  Apart from what I wore I also made sure to sleep as much as possible, to be honest I found pregnancy exhausting. It’s important to slow down and listen to your body.

When it comes to fashion, and all those adorable baby clothes, were you excited to have a girl?

YES! I love wearing florals myself so you can imagine my excitement at all of the adorable little floral baby clothes to choose from. Bonpoint and Amaia are two of my favourite shops. Baby Gap has some adorable babygros and so well priced considering how quickly they grow out of everything. Zara Home has beautiful baby bedding and wiping cloths.

Did you stick to the latest fashion trends during your pregnancy, and what were the key pieces that took you through the trimesters?

I definitely stuck to dresses for work as it’s much easier to pick one piece in the morning than to think about putting an outfit together when morning sickness strikes. Generally rather than choose pieces that might be “on trend’ I tend to choose things I love that will offer longevity season to season.

What was your favourite thing about being pregnant?

Knowing that at the end of the 10 month (yes 10 month!) journey I would meet the precious little person inside of me.

Were there any items of fashion that you missed wearing when pregnant?

Everything that has a waist.

Has baby Honor been through the doors at Vogue House yet?

Not yet but she has been reading each new issue with me while Im on maternity leave.

What would your idea of the perfect family day be?

It’s early days so we’ve been staying pretty close to home so far. On the weekends my husband and I love to take her for a walk in Kensington Gardens and then out for lunch afterwards. Her favourite place to sleep is in her pram so it works out well for us all.

Share with us your favourite family recipe.

I love Hemsley + Hemsley’s recipe for Pablo’s chicken and it’s so easy to make – it’s basically a healthy version of fried chicken using ground almonds.

How would you sum yourself up in one sentence?

Hopefully a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend.
