I went along to an old favourite of mine last night, to test out the new menu makeover. My local Cafè Rouge is located up in the very prestigious Wimbledon Village, home to one of our favourite shops Igloo, and the soon to be open Evie Loves Toast. I had a quick sneak-peek inside the new Evie Loves Toast on my way to dinner, and I can tell you, it’s looking like it’s going to be just as brilliant as the one in my hometown, Cobham.
It goes without saying just how picturesque and lovely Wimbledon Village is, and I hadn’t visited for a while, so I was excited at the prospect. Cafè Rouge is based in the very heart of the village, and just like in Paris, there’s outdoor seating on the street, I absolutely adore those iconic red rattan framed chairs they use on on the pavement. The restaurant definitely caters for families, there’s a dedicated baby changing toilet which can often be found lacking in many restaurants and pubs these days. The food was delicious, and while I was tempted for all of five seconds to try the snails, we stuck to the good old steak and frites, with a delicious charcuterie sharing platter to start. We were served by the lovely Gosia and Hanlee, who couldn’t have been more helpful.
Executive Chef Duncan McEwan spent the last six months deliberating the new menu, looking back over 25 years’ worth of previous menus in the archives! They’ve added some fresh French cuisine in the form of Moules, Confit de Canard, Poulet Breton and Loup De Mar – which all sounds very romantic.
I can highly recommend Wimbledon Village for an afternoon out with the kids – the common is a stone’s throw from the restaurant, where you can run around with the kids and work up an appetite for a delicious supper.
