I really like reproducing some of the Christmas decorations that I had on my Christmas tree growing up. One of my favourite were these pine cone angels that my parents got in South Korea when we lived there. We used to have a whole box through, now we have only a handful. I thought it would be nice to make some for my Mum as a surprise and pass along some new decorations for my charge’s Christmas tree.
Make sure you follow my Christmas board on Pinterest for more ideas. Don’t forget to save the pin for later.
Start by painting a face onto your wooden beads. 1.5cm diameter beads worked out best for us. The 1cm ones were just too small and 1 inch ones were too big. However, it really does depend on the size of your pine cones.
While that is drying cut out some wings and paint both sides either silver or gold. The original pine cone angels were covered in glitter, but my Mum hates glitter. I mean she will go out of her way to avoid anything with glitter on. As a kind and caring daughter, I skipped the glitter part this year.
Paint your pine cone next. I kept them the same colour as the wings.
Finally, glue it all together and add a thread to hang it up with.
When I showed my Mum what I had made sure was very touched and she immediately said they looked like the ones from Korea.
If you enjoyed making these pinecone angels be sure to check out my pine cone owls, pine cone snowmen, and peg angels.
