1) Make your own ‘Loom Band’ pencil case!

Make 11 loom strips the length you would like your pencil case to be. When complete, ask an adult to help you thread a length of cotton through the Loom Bands, attaching them together. This is your Loom panel. Fold your panel in half. Using the cotton again, ‘sew up’ the side of your pencil case. We’re almost there! Attach a ‘Loom clip’ to the top of your case to keep all of your stationary safe. Voila! Now, you’re the coolest kid in school!

2) Write a song about your summer!

Create your very own the theme tune!

Sing about your adventures, people you saw and places you went! Record on your phones and keep forever!

You could even make this something that you do every year so you can look back at al the summer fun you’ve had!

3) Your goals for the school year!

Write a chart of the things you want to achieve in the school year! Make new friends, read more.. the lists are endless! Draw a picture for each one and hang your fantastic artwork at home.

4) We love Pencil Flags!

Cut out different shapes and sizes of paper flag to fit around your pencils and pens! Then get to work decorating them! Stickers, glitter, paint – the choice is yours! Roll each flag around your pen and glue! An entire army of brand new stationary!

5) Make a memory jar!

We all wish we could remember every single one of our memories! With this simple idea, we can! At the end of each day, choose your funny, happy and special memories of school and write them down on a coloured piece of card. On the last day of term, open the memory jar and read out the memories with your classmates. You’ll be amazed at the brilliant thoughts you can now cherish forever!

6) Friendship Tree

Using the biggest piece of paper you can find, draw a giant tree trunk. Make sure your tree design has lots of long branches. Now for the fun part! Using multi-coloured finger paints, get your classmates to paint their thumbs and “leaf” them around the tree’s branches. Don’t stop until the whole school has added their ‘thumb leaf.’

7) Your Summer – The Movie!!

Using a mobile phone, make a film about all your favourite things that happened over the Summer Holidays! Using themes, characters and a beginning, middle and end create your fabulous storyline that you’ll want to watch over and over again! Get your friends involved too – This is Hollywood!

8) Make your own Play-Doh!

All you will need is:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 cup salt
  • 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 Tablespoon cream of tartar (optional for improved elasticity!)
  • Food coloring & Scented oils (Added after cooking)

Mix all the ingredients together in a pan over a low heat. And that’s it! If your Play-Doh mixture is still too wet, simply cook it for longer!

Remember to allow your mixture to cool fully, before play-time!

9) Re-invent your old lunch box!

Measure each side of your lunch box using a ruler. Transfer your measurements onto a sheet of paper and carefully cut out. Attach your cut outs to the side of your lunch box using a strong liquid glue. We’re ready to go! Using water-colours, chalks, stickers and anything else you can get your hands on – let your imagination run wild! Get creative and be the talk of the canteen!
