As a mama of two beautiful boys, I know first hand that moms, especially new moms, need all the energy they can get. While it can be difficult to receive a full night’s sleep with a newborn, feelings of fatigue and sluggishness can also arise from excess amounts of sugar, preservatives, and pesticides in your body from overly processed and artificially-made foods.

To remove these toxins from your system, continue to ease into the new year with a gentle, revitalizing cleanse. If you’re breastfeeding (and even if you’re not), opt out of the watery juice cleanses that deprive the body of fiber and the necessary calories that keep your energy levels up. Instead, choose a cleanse that consists of real, whole food meals that consist of superfoods and an array of vibrant seasonal fruits + veggies, so you’ll be fully satisfied, nourished, and glowing with energy.

As breastfeeding can lead to dehydration, it’s extremely important to consume an increased amount of liquids and integrate smoothies and soups into meals, which helps replenish the body with essential vitamins that get depleted after pregnancy.

To get started, whip up this revitalizing Greentox Smoothie and grounding Greentox Soup! Both contain leafy greens that are loaded with iron, zinc, and manganese (from the kale, broccoli, and parsley)””all vitamins that become depleted after the birth of the baby. The pineapple and orange in the smoothie are loaded with vitamin C, a key vitamin needed by new mothers for immune system support. The soup also contains garlic, which is chock-full of selenium, a mineral that regulates hormone levels and offers metabolic support to help shed that extra baby weight!

Greentox Smoothie

Gather This:

  • 1 cup of kale or 2-3 large leafs
  • 1 small handful of parsley
  • 1/4 large avocado
  • 1/4 cup pineapple
  • 1/2 orange
  • 1/2 cup coconut water
  • 1 inch piece of ginger
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Philosophie Green Dream Superfood + Protein Blend
  • 1 teaspoon Philosophie Green Bee Honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric

Do This:

Place all ingredients into a high-speed blender, and pulse or blend until thick and creamy. Add crushed ice or additional coconut water to reach desired consistency. Pour into your favorite glass + add your favorite superfood topping like unsweetened coconut or goji berries!

Greentox Soup with Broccoli and Artichoke

Gather This:

  • 3 cloves of garlic, roughly chopped
  • 1/2 yellow onion, diced
  • 2 large florets of broccoli
  • 1/2 cup artichoke hearts
  • 3 tablespoons nutritional yeast
  • 3-4 cups low sodium vegetable broth (mushroom would also be a great alternative )
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon Philosophie Green Dream Superfood + Protein Blend
  • salt and pepper to taste

Do This:

Heat the coconut oil in a medium sized pot. When the oil is melted, add the onions and sauté until they begin to soften (about 4-5 minutes). Add the garlic and Green Dream, along with a pinch of salt and pepper, and continue to sauté for another two minutes. Next, add the broth and bring to a boil. When you start to see bubbles, reduce the heat, add the remaining ingredients, and simmer for 5-6 minutes. Test the broccoli with a fork to see if it is fork tender. If it’s not, simmer for another 1-2 minutes.

Pull the soup off the heat, and puree with an immersion blender. If you don’t have one on hand,  pour the soup into a high-speed blender and mix until thick and creamy. Add salt and pepper to taste, or nutritional yeast for a more prominent cheese flavor. If your soup is too thick, feel free to add more stock as needed.

Serve in bowls, and garnish with parsley leaves, roasted pepitas, chili flakes, or lemon zest!
