I found some hyacinth bulbs and special vases at M&S last week, and it’s taken me right back to my childhood. I used to do this with my mother every year, checking it weekly and then potting the plant up to sit in my room over Christmas.
I chose a pinky/red for my daughter, and a blue for my son. It’s such an easy thing to do. Literally fill the glass with water to about 1cm below the bulb – or as high as you can without the water touching the bulb.
Pop the bulb into the top of the vase, and store in a cool dry place. Top up the water as necessary, watch the roots grow, and the bud, which will gradually turn into delcious smelling hyacinths, just in time for Christmas.
You can buy specific hyacinths vases on amazon and most garden centres should stock the bulbs now.
