My response is to add a huge amount of support to this call for action. It is shameful and atrocious that in our country we neglect the wellbeing of our children, either through lack of knowledge, access or a disregard over the importance good nourishment for our children. Not only would free vitamins and minerals for all children offer a cheap way to correct nutritional deficiencies, such as the quoted common vitamin D deficiency, but if by offering free vitamins and minerals we are highlighting the importance of appropriate nourishment to all parents in protecting their child’s health and wellbeing, this has to be a good thing.
I think it’s a great idea to have a national child’s week, to celebrate the amazing accomplishments of children as so often our news is dominated by bad news stories. In the young we have the opportunity to create an inspired healthy next generation, so every penny and ounce of effort we invest in the young will reap huge rewards in the future.
