Join The School Run: A Nationwide Family Fitness Initiative

The School Run is a new and exciting nationwide campaign taking place at ten primary schools across the UK this week. The School Run is an initiative set up by DW Fitness First to encourage London families to be more active.

Hackney’s Orchard Primary School

Today the spotlight falls on Hackney’s Orchard Primary School, where children and parents are gearing up to run their routes home this afternoon. London based GB sprinters Perri Shakes-Drayton, Dwayne Cowan and Bianca Williams will be there to inspire and support those taking part.

The baton will pass from London to Bristol, Northumberland, Cambridge, Cardiff, Brighton, Belfast, Liverpool, Bournemouth and Sheffield.

The research

The School Run was launched in light of research that revealed four out of five parents lose five hours of exercise a week after having children, gaining an average of 1.5 stone. They also concluded that over a third of parents in London would like to start exercising with their children, but perhaps needed a solution to suit their busy lifestyles.

Ben and Una Foden

DW Fitness First is fronted by Ben Foden and his wife Una. The School Run campaign and exercise plan is a huge part of their vision to create an active nation and provides encouragement to both sporty parents and those just looking to move a little more.

The pair have launched a new family fitness guide with a range of exercise routines specifically devised to keep kids entertained while the entire family exercises in sync. They understand the busy lifestyles of the average family, and aim to help parents work out around and with their children’s routines. Get cracking by downloading the workout plan here.
