Children and families raise over £30,000 to fund research into premature birth
On Tuesday 1 July, over 200 children and families took to the streets of Chelsea, in a sponsored walk which raised over £30,000 for Borne.
Tiny trekkers set off from Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, taking the King’s Road route to Chelsea Town Hall, where they were presented with their medals by rugby legend and Ambassador for Borne, Will Greenwood. Money raised from the event will go towards Borne’s vital research into premature birth. Children also enjoyed an afternoon tea party and entertainment by Sharky and George and Just George.
Kidimanjaro was kindly supported by Knight Frank, The Thackeray Estate and The Samonas Family. The walk also marked the celebration of Will Greenwood and his wife who will be leading a team of trekkers up Kilimanjaro in aid of Borne between 6-16 August.
In the UK, 1 in 10 babies are born too soon and premature birth accounts for over 70% if long terms disability and death in newborn babies. Borne aims to change this. Borne is a collaboration between Chelsea and Westminster Health Charity and the maternity team at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. To find out more, visit www.borne.org.uk
