My name is Misha Starr Nayssan and I live in Los Angeles, California with my husband Elliot. I moved to LA after graduating from Emerson College in 2009. Before LA I was living in Boston at school, but was born in Toronto, Canada and spent most of my life in London, England. You will learn from my blog, Then Comes Baby that I was inspired to start my blog by an amazing Mommy friend of mine. When I started to think about what an incredible Mother she was I began to think about all my friends who were Mom’s and how amazing they were. I thought what if parents could come to a site and read all different mom’s tips, their go to recipes for their kids and a product their kids love and then take what they want and apply it in their adventures of parenthood. After months of planning and gathering interviews Then Comes Baby was born!

I have lived in Los Angeles for the last 5 years. In the last couple of years I have been immersed in the world of children! Not my own, but everyone around me! Upon launching my blog Then Comes Baby I am constantly learning more and more about raising children and having a family and I can’t wait to have my own!

One thing I know for sure is that Los Angeles is such a wonderful place for families. The sun is always shining, and there is no excuse not to play outside. Every day there is always something fun going on. When visiting LA with your family there are so many choices of what to do. I have compiled a list of some fun family friendly must see spots.

Farmer’s Markets

Farmers Markets are a Los Angeles staple. They usually occur on the weekends, but some take place during the week. There are lots of fruits and vegetables for the kids to sample, which helps promote healthy eating. There are usually petting zoos and horse rides at the farmers markets for your kids to enjoy.

Whatever area you are staying in there is likely a farmers market near by. The best thing to do is Google the nearest one.

Museums

There are so many wonderful museums all over LA. They are all kid friendly. Museums are great because kids can run in open space and learn about the art. On some school holidays the museums offer free admission for kids. A few popular museums to check out are, The Page Museum La Brea Tar Pits, this is a museum and park combined. The museum tells the history of the Tar Pits and outside you can walk around and see the preserved animals that are trapped in the tar, The Skirball Center, Both Getty Museums, LACMA, MOCA and The Hammer. If you check on the day your going there could even be a children’s art related activity.

Theatre

Although LA is not London when it comes to the theatre it still gets a lot of the big shows. Some of the more popular theatres are The Pantages, The Geffen, and The Wallis Annenberg Center for performing arts.

Parks around LA

  • LA is full of parks. Doesn’t matter what area you stay in; there is always a park near by. Some of my favorites are:
  • Tongva Park in Santa Monica – this park is brand new with a great playground.
  • Douglas Park – There is a playground; skate board area and a beautiful duck pond.
  • Pan Pacific Park – This Park is big and fun, with a playground, baseball field and plenty of grass to bring a soccer ball to kick around.
  • Lake Balboa – Beautiful Park surrounding a lake.
  • Echo Park Lake – Another Park with a lake. This park is popular for people staying active by running around the perimeter of the lake.
  • Kid friendly shopping

The Grove

The Grove is like Disney Land for shopping (especially during the Holiday Seasons). It is an outdoor mall with great shops, candy stores and a movie theater. On the weekends they usually bring fun bands to the grassy area for the whole family to enjoy. During the summer months they show a kid friendly movie on the grass with food delivery from the restaurants located in the Grove

3rd Street Promenade and Santa Monica Place

These two shopping areas, located next to each other just with different names is in the heart of Santa Monica, steps from the beach. This is another outdoor mall with lots shops and restaurants. There is a beautiful eating patio on the rooftop where you can bring your own food, or food from the food court with views of the ocean.

Santa Monica Pier

Rides, games and a classic Los Angeles landmark!

Venice Beach

Venice Beach is the best place for people watching! You can rent bikes (kids bikes, or bikes with baby seats) and ride down Venice Beach. You get to see the Ocean, buy Los Angeles memorabilia, Muscle beach, skate board parks, and interesting looking people.

Hollywood Blvd

The famous Hollywood Blvd is home to the walk of fame and the handprints at Graumans Chinese Theater.

Century City Mall

Century City Mall is another outdoor mall (yes with weather like ours we have a lot of outdoor malls). There is a great food court and a kid play space called Giggle’s n Hug’s where your kids can play, watch puppet shows and magic shows, while enjoying organic food.

Brentwood County Mart

The Brentwood Country Mart is the go to place for celebrity spotting (all those photos of Ben Affleck with his kids are all taken there). On the weekends this place is full of families eating in the outdoor area or playing in the petting zoo.

Malibu Country Mart

Malibu is a must for any trip to LA. The Malibu country mart has famous restaurants, a playground, and great shopping. You will probably spot a celebrity playing with their kids in the playground. Located a short walk from the beach you family could spend a whole day here.

Getting active

Since the weather is always beautiful in sunny California hiking is a fun activity to do with the family. From Hollywood, to Malibu, LA has so many different hiking trails. You can pick the difficulty of your hike and the length. It is a fun way to get active as a family while taking in the views of the whole city.

Beach – Annenberg Beach House

Located on the beach in Santa Monica, the Annenberg Beach house offers beach chairs, sand toys and a beach restaurant where you can eat with your feet in the sand.

Of course there is always Disneyland, the happiest place on Earth, and along with Disneyland there is also Universal Studios. At Universal Studios they have rides and also Universal City Walk is a great place where you can eat, shop and buy Universal memorabilia.
