This week, we interviewed the lovely Anna Wetterlin, Director and Owner of Moccis, the hand-sewn Swedish Moccasin company. Anna lives in Roehampton, south west London with her husband and children, Lea 6, Alexander 4 and Oliver 2.
We’re huge fans of Moccis. Tell us what inspired you to design children’s Swedish style moccasins?
I realised whilst working as an agent for Scandinavian brands that the UK had not yet discovered what every mum in Sweden can’t live without, moccasins! I found that moccasin slippers with socks meant:
- No more slipping and sliding!
- No more cold feet and missing socks!
- No more dirty shoes indoors!
They are perfect at home, at the nursery and at the playgroup and the best part: they are machine washable!
With a background in fashion I thought it would be great fun to design some of my own and introduce them to the UK. The outcome was Moccis! My main aim was to design traditional Swedish moccasins that children would pick before any other footwear, & in winter 2008 Moccis launched its first collection!
Do you have a favourite family recipe?
Very Swedish…Ribeye steak, French fries and béarnaise sauce.
What’s your idea of a perfect family weekend?
An impulsive trip to a B&B in the English countryside with total focus on each other, no Blackberrys allowed!
What wisdom would you like to pass on to your children?
That everything will be alright, eventually.
How do you relax after a hard day?
An episode of good TV-drama, no brain needed.
What other up and coming children’s brands do you find most exciting?
Rockafella, Ubang, Mini Rodini, Sunuva, FemiPleasure.co.uk
What was the hardest part about becoming a mother and what tips can you offer to our readers who are expecting?
The hardest part is to know how to be a good parent and juggle family-life with work. Nobody is perfect so try to enjoy rather than stress.
What’s in the pipeline for you next?
Trying to grow with Moccis internationally and investing in mentors that can help us on the way.
What’s the one baby product you couldn’t have lived without?
How would you sum yourself up in one sentence?
I am an impulsive, talkative and optimistic everyday “mother of 4 (3+ MOCCIS) life-juggler” that wishes that the day had 48 hours.
Moccis is currently available in shops throughout the world with the most recent launch in Japan and USA. Please visit our website or contact us for more information. www.moccis.co.uk.
