I always forget a picnic blanket and the children always complain of the prickly grass so I end up using my jumper or coat as a mat which gets covered in grass stains. I love this nifty one which has a waterproof backing. I love the geometric pattern and folds away easily with clever rope handle.

It might not be the most practical answer to a picnic but I adore using a proper old fashioned basket. You can find them with cutlery already inside but I like a big empty one to add all my bits and pieces.
