Watching Sky News this morning, there are lots of people talking about the importance of reading to your children. I have to be very disciplined about this, especially with two children so close together in age, both wanting to be read very different things. My son is into pirates, and my daughter, fairy princesses. It doesn’t matter how much time you’ve got, reading is so important.
I love how book shops these days have time for children, and many have sweet little areas designated for kids to sit quietly and read. My children are obsessed with television, but I always make sure we read a book in the morning, or preferably just before bedtime.
My favourite book at the moment is the beautiful Usbourne’s Illustrated stories from Shakespeare, but my daughter, who’s two, announced the other night “Me no likey Shakespeare!” which made me laugh. Maybe next year!
