Once you get over the fear of holidaying for the first time with a baby-in-tow, the first six months really are the easiest time to travel. Make the most of your baby’s portability and treat yourselves to a trip to catch up on some much needed sleep and spend some time as your new family unit. It may not be a holiday like it used to be but these destinations ensure at least a luxurious change of scenery.
Muscat, Oman
Guaranteed sunshine all year round without the brashness of Dubai, Oman offers up the perfect mid-haul winter sunshine destination. The flight is a not-too-scary seven hours direct with British Airways and when you arrive, the oasis that is The Chedi, Muscat awaits. Stand-alone sprawling villas diminish worries about your baby waking the neighbours and a spa, three pools and delectable restaurants promise to restore you to your former self.
Meribel, France
Skiing with a baby may not appeal to all but a chalet holiday offers a break from the chores of everyday life with all the comforts of home. Book a luxury chalet with Purple Ski, who will kit you out with everything your baby needs and even help you booking a professional nanny during the days if you’re keen to hit the slopes. Most nights your meals are in house so no need to worry about babysitters.
Oxfordshire, United Kingdom
If the thought of flying really is too much, then plan the ultimate staycation. Head to Soho Farmhouse where your own cabin, complete with sumptuous double bed, deep bathtub and log fire, awaits. Spend days leisurely walking your little one round the grounds or taking them for their first swim. Make the most of the babysitters by night though and either curl up in the cosy main barn or head to the poolside Japanese. Don’t forget to book yourself into the Cowshed Spa for a spot of pampering.
Oslo, Norway
Babies don’t immediately make you think of city breaks but Norway’s coastal capital is possibly one of the most baby-friendly in the world with a welcoming stroller culture. Stay at the trendy Thief hotel with stylish Stokke baby products and spend your weekend meandering through the city or sampling seafood al fresco along the coastal promenade.
Limousin, France
Whether you drive or fly, this idyllic French spot offers up two perfect baby-friendly solutions. Either head on over with the extended family and rent out the whole of 8 bedroom Manoir La Croix, positively overflowing with baby and kiddie friendly equipment, or head over for one of their post-natal retreats where Mum gets to focus on post-natal exercise and recovery whilst Dad spends some quality time with the babe.
Gloucestershire, United Kingdom
Calcot Manor proves that just because you’re travelling with a child, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy life’s little luxuries. This Cotswold estate is stylishly decorated, with decadence lurking around every corner by way of the spa, restaurants and sumptuous bedrooms. But this is also possibly one of the country’s most kiddie friendly hotels with a crèche, baby-listening service and swimming times for the little ones. The perfect way to spend quality time both with and without your bundle of joy.
