Whilst the fashion folk are busy focusing on next winter’s collections, we’re only just starting to think about our SS16 wardrobe. With an optimistic hint of spring on its way, (at least it’s now light whilst we’re giving our children their supper!), here are the top trends for SS16 that will work for you, whether you’re sporting a bump or not. Personally I can’t wait to get stuck in to some fresh summer looks – it’s an exciting season ahead!
1. The cold shoulder
This is without doubt the biggest trend of the season, with the high street having adopted it in a massive way already. There are an abundance of ways to wear this trend, from shoulder cut-outs to full on off-the-shoulder.
Here are a selection of my favourites out there.
Whistles Cotton Stripe Bardot Top
Cecilie Copenhagen Scarf-print off-the-shoulder cotton top
Tibi’s Off-the-shoulder cotton and linen-blend top
Dorothee Schumacher Close To Nature cotton dress
2. The Mumsy shoe
Relax, the low heel blocky pump is now fashion’s coolest must-have trend. It’s been creeping it’s way on to the fashion radar over the last year with Gucci’s ‘Marmont’ shoe leading the way, however we can now feel confident and fashionable wearing ours with relaxed denim, culottes, midi skirts, just about everything really!
My favourite pick of the bunch has to be these super pretty pastel pumps from Maryam Nassir Zadeh.
3. Maxi Boho
The boho-trend never really goes away it just keeps evolving and we have Chloe to thank for that. This season beautiful colourful flowing maxi dresses are the big ticket item and couldn’t be more perfect for a growing bump.
Rainbow gathered silk-chiffon dress
Zimmermann Empire mist-print silk-chiffon dress
Dodo Bar Or Tiered tasseled cotton-gauze maxi dress
Zara Long Dress with Floral Print
4. The Back Pack
Balance the weight of your bump with this season’s stylish carry-all – the back pack. No matter what you’re wearing or where you’re heading, the back pack is now a fashion staple.
Burberry’s personalised monogrammed bags are a firm favourite, however there are many lovely packs to choose from. Opt for something fun rather than black.
The Small Rucksack in Technical Nylon and Leather
Zara Backpack and Foldover Flap
5. Ruffles
Ruffles are being featured on everything; trouser hems, wrap skirts, blouse sleeves, necks or plackets. However you choose to wear yours, you’ll definitely love this feminine trend.
Lisa Marie Fernandez Mira Flounce bonded bikini
Preen by Thorton Bregazzi Lera silk-georgette cutaway-shoulder top
Isa Arfen Poleng Check Cotton Ruffle Top
Natasha Zinko Tiered-hemline lace-panel cotton top
6. Stripes
Who doesn’t love a striped top? This season we see stripes being worn vertically, which can really help to elongate your shape.
Vanessa Bruno Raye ruffled striped bib cotton-blend shirt
Victoria Beckham White Cotton Striped Shirt Dress
Macgraw White Lace Insert Fountain Top
Zara Striped Tunic Shirt Dress
Dorothee Schumacher Striped peplum shirt
7. The Red Lip
Last but not least, finish off your ‘look’ with a red lip. Glowing cheeks and natural eyes will enhance your red lips and you’ll look and feel really fresh.
Don’t just save this look for evening, red lips deserve to be shown off in the day. You’ll feel instantly glamorous,
