With Halloween nearly upon us it’s always good to have a strategy. If your little ones are keen to join in the ghostly, goulish celebrations but altogether too young to go trick or treating, then bring the party home!
Share the load with a few friends and organise a few silly games and make some simple finger food. Children will use their imagination, so you need to only suggest that is ‘Spooky’!
Why not try these?
Scary Vanilla Mini Cakes
- 4 oz butter
- 4 oz sugar
- 4 oz self raising flour
- 2 tsp vanilla paste
- 2 eggs
36 mini cake cases (Jane Asher, Wiltons, John Lewis all do lovely Halloween ranges)
Cream butter and sugar together, beat in eggs and vanilla paste. Sift in flour and gently combine. Place full teaspoon into cases and bake at 160 degrees for just about 15 minutes. Remove from oven when golden and leave to cool.
To make butter icing:
- 2 oz butter
- 4 oz icing sugar
- splash of milk
- 1 tsp vanilla paste
Choose a colour or theme and decorate cakes with little sweets, or use mini cutters to make fondant decorations such as ghosts, pumpkins and bats. Remember, less is more and you don’t need to over-do the sprinkles!
Mini cakes are the perfect thing for children… just the right size to actually eat and enjoy.
