Where Should I Take My Family Skiing, Italy, France or Switzerland? My Baba 26 January, 2015 Features, Living, Travel It’s that time of year again – the season to head to snow-capped mountains with skis in hand and family in tow. This month we’ve looked to sibling site Mr & Mrs Smith, and asked Travel Team consultant Ellis Fuller to select her top three child-friendly ski hotels. Having completed five seasons in Val-d’Isère and Austria’s Zillertal valley, she’s fully qualified to show us the slopes… DV Boutique Hotel in South Tyrol, Italy This cosy, cabin-chic ski lodge is located right next to the piste, in mountain-surrounded Madonna di Campiglio. The hotel has a fantastic relationship with the ski school – instructors will even come back to the hotel with you to analyse a video of your skiing lesson! For families with older children, rooms 105 and 106 – with wooden floors, animal hides, and luxurious throws and blankets – interconnect. The super-soothing spa specialises in Thalassotherapy (seawater-infused therapies) so you can soothe your ski-embattled muscles. Doubles from £100 a night Le Lodge Park in France Le Lodge Park hotel is located at the famous Megève resort, and it’s conveniently set mere steps away from the ski lift, for an effortless bed-to-slope transition. I’m really keen to head to this hotel myself; it offers alpine opulence at its best, with beautifully adorned rooms decorated with fur trimmings, leather and dark wood. The restaurant, which also has a lovely children’s menu, is excellent; and the luxurious spa offers treatments that run the gamut from warming massages to a frosty snow-crystal body scrub – brr! Doubles from £123 a night The Cambrian in Switzerland The Cambrian is located in a great skiing area in Adelboden, in the heart of the Alps. The ski area stretches up to 2,400 metres so you can be confident of spot-on snow conditions. It’s great for families; there are slopes for every level of ability, and it’s an ideal base for hikers who want an alpine adventure too. Unwind after a day on the slopes in the hotel’s soul-soothing hydrotherapy pool, which is sleek and modern with awe-inspiring panoramic views. I love the Family Suite, which is decked out in animal hides and has cream ceiling beams. One of the two rooms is on a mezzanine level so it offers privacy as well as peace of mind.
