This week, we were thrilled to interview the gorgeous Tana Ramsay, owner of All About the Girl on life as a busy working mama. Tana is married to super-chef Gordon, and together they have four children. They live in south London.

You’re a mum of four, including twins, Jack and Holly. What was it like being a mum to two tiny ones at the same time, and what advice would you give to other parents expecting twins?

Having a 14-month-old toddler when the twins were born meant that routine was key for me. To  be honest you really don’t have too much time to think about it so my advice would be try not to  listen to the “it’s twice the work” argument and if you are offered a helping hand take it!

Did you always want to be a chef, and what are your other interests?

I am definitely not a chef as I have never trained, so am more of a homecook. With 4 children and a husband it sort of occurred naturally as they all needed a good meal in the evening and it meant that I didn’t have to cook twice!

Whose cooking do the children prefer, yours or Gordon’s?

When we cook at home it is a real family affair, we tend to have homestyle food together, so luckily they can’t really tell where my cooking stops and Gordon’s starts!

Do any of your four children have aspirations to follow in your footsteps and become chefs, or do they have other career ideas?

We are at the stage when what they want to be changes daily! Out of the four of them Tilly loves baking and is a real meringue queen!

What’s your favourite family recipe?

Sausage hot pot is a real favourite and has been since they were little – and it was great to “hide” extra veggies in…

What would be your idea of a perfect weekend?

Not to have any plans. With 4 children and a busy husband the week is governed by times and schedules, so to all be together at the weekend with no plans would be wonderful.

You always look so gorgeous. Is healthy eating very important to you, and are there any foods you steer clear of completely?

I think that it is all about balance – I love my treats and would be very miserable if I denied myself,  but I do try and maintain a healthy diet – the only thing that I try to avoid is fizzy drinks.

What’s the one baby product you couldn’t have lived without?

Sudocrem – my answer to everything! We still have some at home for emergencies!

What’s in the pipeline for you next?

My salon ‘All About the Girl‘ in Battersea has been open for 2 ½ years and I would love to open another one.

How would you sum yourself up?

Lucky!
