The Best Family Activities In London This Weekend

You know the drill: each week we bring you the best activities for families taking place in and around the city and you go out and have an excellent weekend. Here’s what’s coming up 6 – 8 April.

Get building: LEGO City

Do the little ones love LEGO or maybe you’re the building blocks fan? Maybe after heading to see the Art Of Brick, your family are hankering after some more LEGO action. Join other builders to create an incredible LEGO city. It’s a drop-in session so go along and let your imagination loose. The John Soane Museum have plenty of other activities coming up so be sure to check them out too!

Theatre pick: Sarah & Duck’s Big Top Birthday 

This award-winning CBeebies show is taking to the stage this April to truly bring the Sarah & Duck characters to life. Told through a fantastic blend of puppetry, storytelling and music, the Big Top Birthday will take you and your children on a magical adventure into the world of Sarah & Duck.

Get cooking: Sushi And Dim Sum Masterclass At Mini Harrods

If there’s any membership worth signing up for, it’s the Mini Harrods membership. They’re always hosting fun events for children and families from face-painting to story-telling to even this super special sushi class. Learn new skills from the Chai Wu chefs and take home your Japanese and Chinese delights.

Spectacular: The Insect Circus

Described as a “delightful wonderland of incredible mini-beasts, grown to human proportions and trained for our viewing,” the Insect Circus returns to the Albany Theatre by popular demand. Watch the actors transform into beasts and butterflies to perform incredible arthropod circus tricks!

Easter camp: The Hive’s The Legend Of The Secret Jewels 

Looking for a last minute Easter activity for the children? Look no further as Angels & Urchins still have some places on offer at a few camps over the holidays. All of The Hive Easter camps are always a big hit, but The Secret Jewels treasure hunt is our favourite. Join the Hive Explorers in the search for Captain Blacktoe’s stolen jewels. The adventure promises a “good dose of history and geography” with lateral thinking and lots of fun!

Entertainment: Sid’s Deep Sea Discovery Show

CBeebies veteran and star Sid Sloane is promises to take children on an exciting and colourful underwater adventure in his latest Deep Sea Discovery show. Following on from the success of Sid’s Show, this time we venture into a fish tank to discover what a mermaid is doing with Sid’s TV remote control, who has her pearls and whether Sid can make friends with a dangerous shark!

Out of town: Wheelz Play Zones At Diggerland

Diggerland theme parks all around the UK have teamed up with Little Tikes to introduce a new and exciting play zone for children. The zones will be packed with the Little Tikes’ Wheelz range including dirt diggers and dump trucks, as well as hero outdoor products such as sand and water tables. There will also be performance days throughout the year where the kids will be able to test out the remote control Wheelz and Flyerz range. See the website for more details about these days.

Easter: Lindt Golden Bunny Hunt

The hunt is on for the iconic Lindt Easter bunny at Hampton Court Palace and gardens of Henry VIII. Once you’ve found all the bunnies, pick up your own Lindt treat from the chocolatiers. The kids will love playing in the Magic Garden and exploring then trying to escape the tricky maze! Be sure to book tickets to this event.

Heads up: Geronimo Festival 

Festival season is fast on the approach and now is the time to start booking tickets! Geronimo, the UK’s biggest kid’s festival, returns this year with promise of some incredible family fun. Expect hundreds of shows and spectacles. We’ve heard rumours about a live circus tent, jousting, forager walks, graffiti workshops, theatre and music workshops, fire stunts and even a giant turtle. Headliners include Justin Fletcher, Katy Ashworth, Mr Bloom, and Andy Day.

Restaurant of the week: Sticky Fingers

Famously owned by Rolling Stone Bill Wyman, this classic American ribs and burger joint is a family favourite tucked off of Kensington High Street. The kids can tuck into mac ‘n’ cheese, bbq spare ribs and lots of other tasty treats that guarantee sticky fingers! While adults are spoilt for choice when it comes to burgers, steaks, and fajita varieties.  Some say it serves the best ribs in London – let us know what you think?
