My son started learning to read a year ago, and he’s finding it really hard. Both my husband and I are dyslexic and struggled at school, so I was really pleased to find Barrington Stoke a couple of years ago.

Barrington Stoke have written a few guest columns for us on dyslexia and teaching your child to read, and they’ve also sent us a great range of dyslexia friendly reading books. This holiday my son and I read one chapter each a night of The Gingerbread Star by the wonderful Anne Fine, it’s a book for 5 to 8 year olds about a little earth worm who dreams of becoming a glow worm, so that she can read in bed at night. I read most of it and my son read all the two and three letter words. I loved reading it with him and it was a very special story for me.

What’s brilliant is that you can read the first chapter of all their books online.
