It’s almost time for the children to go back to school, for many it’ll be the last weekend of the holidays, so make it count and fit in some of these excellent activities around London.

The Little London Open Day

Little London are hosting an open day to showcase their classes available during the autumn school term. The open day will consist of a full-length music class of which children and adults can participate in and enjoy.

Whales Beneath The Surface

Composed of more than 100 specimens from the Natural History Museum’s research collection, this exhibition will take you on a deep sea adventure and teach you some seriously interesting facts about whales, dolphins and even porpoises. Check out the whale song jukebox and play an echolocation game to discover how whales hunt their prey.

Mini Artivists: Perilous Post Arts & Crafts

Junk Music

Inspired by the Sounds of the City exhibition currently on show at the London Transport Museum, the Junk Music drop-in session is a great way to jam and make music. Build instruments from everyday recycled materials and join in the junior jam sesh.

What The Ladybird Heard

A brilliant theatre production about farmyard antics, including live music, puppets and plenty of interactive opportunities. Join the tiny ladybird and two sneaky robbers, and the farmer’s prized cow. This show is a delight for all the family.

Community Carnival

Monksi Mouse’s Baby Disco Dance Hall

Join DJ Monski Mouse, the international disco DJ sensation, for an under 5s party. The disco is all about everyone getting involved and having a boogie, so head a long in your best party-wear.

Drawing On Thailand: Jaqueline Ayer

The House of Illustration’s latest exhibition launches this weekend, welcoming the work of Jacqueline Ayer. She rose to fame in the 1960s with remarkable children’s illustrations in picture books. Her creations brought visions of Asian life into the western market at the time.

Heads up: Daylesford Harvest Festival

It’s only the start of September but we’re already excited for all the autumn treats that come with celebrating the end of summer. Join Daylesford on their Cotswolds Farm for the annual harvest festival and offer thanks for the beautiful summer weather and produce. With plenty of family activities and fabulous food, this is one to put in the diary today!

One for the adults: All Star Lanes, Stratford

If you’re not a seasoned bowler, getting down to the bowling alley always feels like doing something a little different – and it’s super fun. All Star Lanes marries a few games on the lanes with an American diner-style experience, complete with cocktails, burgers and music. Book your lane, arrive early and ease your way into the evening with a speciality gin cocktail; then get your competitive head on and bowl. Sign the night off in the All Star Lanes diner where you can enjoy Americana plates including classic burgers and all out burgers such as The King Pin and The High Roller (you can even load these up with lobster tail!). There are some pretty special mac and cheese options, while the cajun swordfish or hangar steak will have you dining like a king.

Restaurant of the week: Babylon

This restaurant combines class and child-friendly, and a roof garden with incredible views of London’s skyline. All meat is sourced from British farms and much of the beer, wine and cider menu is sourced from the UK too! For young diners Babylon offers mac and cheese, sausages and mash, or spaghetti and meatballs, followed by ice cream and sorbet. If your little ones are feeling grown up, they can also order from the a la carte menu and receive half portions at half price! The dinner menu consists of classic British dishes including Scottish beef fillet and Dingley Dell pork loin steak, though other options including Sea Bream ceviche and summer truffle risotto.
