Looking for a double pushchair without the usual bulk? We’ve been putting the Nuna TRVL dubl through its paces, and this lightweight side-by-side has seriously impressed us.
There are some pieces of baby kit where convenience isn’t simply a nice bonus. It can make the difference between getting out of the house relatively unscathed and wondering why you attempted it in the first place. A double pushchair falls firmly into that category.
Anyone with two small children in tow will know the dilemma. You need enough space to keep both passengers comfortable, but you don’t necessarily want to manoeuvre something resembling a small family car around the shops.
We’ve been using the TRVL dubl ourselves and, first things first, it is incredibly easy to push. It feels light, nimble and surprisingly compact for a side-by-side. At just 78cm wide, it’s designed to fit through standard doorways and narrow shop aisles, so you don’t get that familiar double-pushchair moment of wondering whether you’re actually going to fit.
One of the things we noticed straight away was the stroller’s weight.
The TRVL dubl weighs just 10.8kg, excluding the armbar and rain cover. That’s impressively light for a double pushchair, particularly one that can carry two children from birth right up to 22kg per seat.
More importantly, it doesn’t feel flimsy. There’s still the solid, premium finish you’d expect from Nuna, but without the bulk that can make some double pushchairs hard work.
The steering is another big plus. All-wheel suspension, foam-filled tyres and lockable front swivel wheels help it glide along pavements and deal with uneven ground. Even with two passengers on board, it’s wonderfully easy to turn.
For everyday life, holidays, days out and trips into town, it makes getting around with two feel refreshingly easier.
The TRVL dubl is particularly clever if you have children of different ages.
Rather than treating the two seats as one unit, each seat and canopy works independently. Perfect for two children who will no doubt always want to be doing the opposite of the other. One child can sit upright while the other naps. Dreamy! And as you’d expect, each passenger gets their own recline, canopy and adjustable calf support.
The seats have a near-flat recline, and the calf support can be raised to create a cosy carriage-style position for younger babies. Meanwhile, the extendable canopies are water-repellent with UPF 50+ protection, a flip-out eyeshade and peek-a-boo window.
It sounds simple, but when you have two children with very different ideas about whether it’s time to sleep, sit up or see what’s going on, that flexibility is incredibly useful.
Both seats can be used from birth and take children up to 22kg each, so there’s plenty of longevity here.
For families using the pushchair with a newborn and an older sibling, there’s another clever touch. Any Nuna PIPA series infant car seat can attach directly to the wider seat, with no adaptor needed. This makes transferring a sleeping baby from the car far less of a faff, especially when there’s another small child waiting to get moving.
Then there’s the fold.
The TRVL dubl folds easily with one hand and stands on its own once folded. Again, it’s one of those features that becomes much more important when you’re juggling two children, bags and everything else that comes with them.
Folded, it measures 37 x 78 x 68cm. Combined with that 10.8kg weight, it feels much more manageable to lift and store than you might expect from a double.
Two children inevitably mean twice the stuff, so we’re pleased to see Nuna hasn’t sacrificed storage in its bid to keep the TRVL dubl compact. Yep, music to our ears. There’s brilliant storage.
The extra-large basket is easy to access and holds up to 10kg, leaving plenty of room for changing bags, coats, snacks, shopping and the various things small children insist on bringing everywhere.
There are some lovely finishing touches too. The pushbar and removable rotating armbar have luxe leatherette accents, while Nuna’s magnetic MagneTech secure snap buckles make fastening wriggly passengers that little bit easier.
There’s also a three-to-five-point no-rethread harness, one-touch rear brake and an included rain cover.
As the TRVL name suggests, this pushchair really comes into its own when you’re out and about. The combination of its relatively low weight, compact fold and narrow frame makes it a great option for holidays as well as everyday family life.
At 78cm wide, it also meets the size and design requirements set by various amusement parks and meets Disney’s stroller size requirements, although Nuna recommends checking individual park restrictions before visiting.
Even if Disneyland isn’t on the agenda, we’re certain the same qualities will definitely come in handy closer to home. Cafés, shops, narrow aisles, doorways and busy pavements all become much easier when your double pushchair doesn’t feel enormous.
For us, it’s the combination of size, weight and manoeuvrability that makes the TRVL dubl such a pleasure to use.
It feels genuinely designed around the reality of getting two small children from A to B. It’s light enough to be manageable, narrow enough for everyday spaces and flexible enough to accommodate two children who might be at completely different stages.
Most importantly, it’s simply lovely to push.
If you’ve been put off side-by-side doubles because of their size, the TRVL dubl is well worth a look. It gives both children a proper, comfortable seat without making you feel as though you’re driving a bus.
