Acorn Colour Sorting Activity for Toddlers

As BB is getting older (sigh) I have started doing simple and quick activities that focus on colour and shapes. And now that is Autumn we have been doing this with an acorn colour sorting activity.

Make sure you follow my toddler activities board in Pinterest for more ideas. Don’t forget to save the pin for later.

For this acorn colour sorting activity you will need:

  • Acorns
  • Acrylic paint
  • Mod Podge

BB and I spent a wonderful morning collecting Acorns at Blenheim Palace. We found many that had some sort of growth on the side of them. Which turned out to be galls containing the developing larvae of the Gall Wasp.

When we got home I choose a few of our acorns and then put them into the oven on a low heat for 15 minutes to help dry them out.

When they had cooled down I painted each acorn and its cupule a different colour. Once they had dried I coated each one in Mod Podge so that the paint wouldn’t scrape off.

When it came to doing the acorn colour sorting I put the acorns in one pile and the cupules in another. I let BB pick up an acorn and then asked him which ”hat” went with it. When he had found the correct hat he would try to put it on and then we placed it back in the box.

Heelys Rolls Into Spring With New Collection

Heelys, the original two-in-one wheely shoe launched in 2000, is preparing for the upcoming Easter holidays with its new spring collection. Ideal for encouraging an active, healthy lifestyle, the stylish designs will ensure kids (big and small) will roll through the holidays with ease.

The collection consists of 19 designs, including three brand new Heelys shapes: Reserve Ex, Reserve Low and Pro 20 Half Flood. The Reserve Ex has a basketball shoe style, while the Reserve Low and Pro 20 Half Flood tap into the current Y2K trend for an extra chunky sole.

Match your Heelys to your mood, with designs split across two main aesthetics – a darker colour scheme vs. a lighter, spring-inspired palette. Think camouflage print, graffiti text and paint drips contrasting with pastel colours, tie-dye, metallic laces, foil and rainbow print.

Available in the UK and Europe on the Heelys website and retailers, the collection is available in sizes C12-7 across single or two-wheeled styles. RRPs range from £49.99 to £69.99.
