Head to Hampshire for the Perfect Babymoon Winter Retreat

If you’re looking for a romantic babymoon destination in the UK this winter, why not book a stay at the beautiful Hampshire based Solent Hotel and Spa? We sent one of our roving reporters down to experience exactly what’s on offer.

Solent Hotel & Spa in the market town of Fareham

On first impressions, the hotel is a modern building, but one full of character.

On arrival at the Solent Hotel we were greeted by welcoming staff in the hotel’s reception. The reception area is a really interesting space with a hexagonal roof that extends up into the first floor, complete with candelabra.

As we made our way to our room, we noticed accessible water and fresh milk machines on every floor. We were left to settle into the Premier Suite with its large bedroom and spacious lounge, complete with tea and coffee making area, fridge, and well-stocked complimentary mini-bar.

On the bed was a note asking us to choose which pillow we preferred from the pillow menu, which I thought was a nice touch.

Off the bedroom, we found a shower room located next door to a bright bathroom complete with complimentary toiletries. The suite was immaculately clean, much to my satisfaction! The bed was comfy and the room had air conditioning which we were easily able to control.

We both decided we’d be quite happy to just hibernate in our digs, with everything we could possibly need to hand.

Spa and facilities

After changing into fresh and fluffy bathrobes we wandered down to the hotel’s spa for our Caudalie treatments. The luxurious spa consists of eight treatment rooms, a relaxation lounge, and a double spa treatment room with private outdoor hot tub. The full-length swimming pool room has the feel of a barn conversion with its wooden beams and skylights.

We opted for a back massage each, and both agreed it was a completely relaxing experience. A light, perfumed oil was used to relieve tension and stress, relaxing even the tiniest of tight muscles. The massage left me feeling so relaxed I just wanted to lie on the bed and float a little before we showered, dressed and went down to dinner.

The Terrace Restaurant & Bar

The hotel’s restaurant has a nautical feel, which is not surprising being so close to the coast. Its clean cream walls are adorned with contemporary styled pictures of boats, while the restaurant’s wooden beamed ceiling gives the place a really snug feel. The restaurant is lively, so perfect for those wanting to experience a bit more by way of atmosphere, but for quiet diners, there are cosy corners to watch on from.

We were shown to our table and enjoyed extremely good British cuisine with a Mediterranean touch. The waiter was helpful, with wine suggestions to accompany our chosen meals. Feeling very full and relaxed, we went back to our room and watched a little TV before retiring into beautifully clean white sheets for a peaceful slumber.

The morning after

We were up early to make good use of the pool before breakfast. We had the entire pool room to ourselves for half an hour, while the other guests slept in.

Still feeling full from dinner the night before, we enjoyed a light breakfast back in the restaurant, even though we were being encouraged to try the eggs benedict and full English we could only manage fresh fruit and yoghurt and a pot of breakfast tea!

We left ready to book a return trip, but perhaps next time, we’ll leave our phones at home for the ultimate chill out.
