We’ve rounded up the best family events taking place in London to celebrate King Charles III’s Coronation.
Battersea Power Station will be celebrating the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla with a street party like no other, paying tribute to the best of British culture, on Saturday, the 6th and Sunday, the 7th May.
To mark this once-in-a-lifetime moment, crowds will gather under the historic London landmark’s chimneys and enjoy Union Jack-themed decorations, family-friendly activities and live entertainment while proceedings of the Coronation will be broadcast on a big screen. The street party revellers will also be treated to specially curated Coronation-themed menus, cocktails and offers from British brands that call the iconic building home, as well as a variety of pop-ups.
Bring your family and friends to commemorate this momentous occasion inside London’s defining landmark. Explore Tower Bridge’s high-level Walkways, Glass Floors and atmospheric Engine Rooms, where you can join our drop-in family activities and receive a commemorative ticket as a memento of your visit.
Mark this historic event while exploring the best views of the capital, 42 metres above the Thames, and learning all about Tower Bridge. There will be something for everyone!
Wakehurst in Sussex has announced a host of new family activities across the gardens to mark the King’s Coronation.
Opening on 6 May, the new Wild Wood sculpture trail is a treasure trove of delights for children to discover and for active explorers, the natural log trail Tree Trunk Trek will reopen with a refreshed look.
The Children’s Walled Garden is the perfect spot for messy play, and families can enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend with a stroll through spectacular Coronation Meadow or a picnic overlooking Mansion Pond.
Heads of state, British VIPs and other important-sounding people will descend on London for the coronation of King Charles III taking place on the morning of Saturday, May 6 2023. The service will take place at Westminster Abbey, but you’ll have to have an invite in order to see that. However, if you still want to glimpse a slice of the action, you can line the parade route to the service for free, also known as ‘The King’s Procession’.
The procession is due to start at Buckingham Palace and will head down The Mall before turning right around the corner of St James’s Park, through the Horse Guards Parade, and down Parliament Street before ending at Westminster Abbey.
Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to line the route, so best get there early if you want a front-row spot. There’ll also be screens in key areas if you sleep through your alarm.
Celebrate King Charles III’s Coronation in style at Mayfair’s free Coronation Garden Party in Grosvenor Square, a five-minute walk from Bond Street station.
Taking place from 6 to 7 May, this family-friendly party will see Grosvenor Square transformed into an enchanting garden wonderland to mark the crowning of King Charles III.
His Majesty The King Charles III will be crowned at Westminster Abbey and the ceremony will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby. This televised service will be available to watch inside Winchester Cathedral.
As well as the TV screens throughout the Nave of the cathedral, there will be a central large screen by the altar.

The National Maritime Museum and the Queen’s House are hosting a series of free events marking the coronation of King Charles III, including royal-themed tours, picnics on the lawns and fun family workshops.
Free tours and talks will run throughout the long weekend in the National Maritime Museum and the Queen’s House. There will also be an opportunity to step back in time to the reign of Charles II and meet a 17th-century astronomer, cartographer and rope-maker.
