Trying to find ideas that are easy to do, fill up the time, and are educational can be tricky at the best of times. Throw us all into a lock down, and it gets a whole lot harder. This build a lift stem challenge ticks quite a few boxes. It is educational (physics and design), it’s creative, and it fills up about an hour (minimum).
Make sure you follow my STEM board on Pinterest for more ideas. Don’t forget to save the pin for later.
I always try to keep old bits and bobs from old broken toys, shoe boxes, egg cartons, loo roll rolls etc. This way I have a huge junk modelling supply to choose from.
The challenge was simple; build a working lift with the supplies given.
It was fun to watch them coming up with their own unique ideas. Not only in how the lift would work, but also in how they decorated their building.
YC made hers into a magical sky scrapper which had a beach and water in it.
EC made his into a house, complete with TV and sofa.
I based mine off the Hollywood Tower Hotel, which is the building used for Disney’s Tower of Terror ride in its parks. Of course mine would have a Disney theme, would you expect anything else from me.
If you enjoyed this build a lift stem challenge be sure to check out my cork raft stem challenge and wind up butterflies.
