Encourage Your Little One to Brush Their Teeth with Playbrush

It’s World Oral Health Day and as parents we know that getting your little ones to brush their teeth can be one of those trickier tasks. In our house, teeth brushing is usually a result of some kind of twice daily bribe, ‘go and brush your teeth and you can watch xyz before you go to school!’ or ‘quickly brush your teeth or there won’t be time for three bedtime stories!’ – that kind of bargaining.

When we came across this unique product, we had to investigate further. It’s a rather neat invention by Signal Playbrush which promises to make teeth brushing fun, so last night, my 4 year-old son and 3 year-old daughter put the product to the test.

The Playbrush is a nifty piece of kit that attaches to the handle of any manual toothbrush, transforming the brush into a games controller aimed to encourage children to brush more effectively, for longer. Maisie and George were very excited to get started, they were in their pyjamas early yesterday evening, just so they could brush their teeth.

Who is it for?

Playbrush is perfect for children who are learning to brush their teeth independently, and was developed in light of research revealing a problem area in 3 to 10-year-olds. Games are designed for children up to 12-years-old, but interestingly, an increasing number of teenagers and adults are getting in on the action too.

How it works

Playbrush is a very small device available in pink, red or blue. It’s easy and quick to charge and connects via Bluetooth to a range of interactive games on your smartphone or tablet. The games are based on action and reaction, measuring speed, duration and position to teach your child great brushing techniques.

Statistics and incentives

What we love about Playbrush is that besides being fabulous fun, after every two minute game children are given their brushing statistics and awarded medals if they have brushed well – a great incentive for regular use and improvement. My son George was particularly excited about the medals he was awarded, and taking it in turns, it spurred 3 year-old daughter Maisie to brush better on a second go! I was very impressed to see them both making an effort to brush better.

The verdict? We’re all in agreement in our house that Playbrush is a brilliant tool – and one they’ll be using from now on.
