I love making storybook play sets; I think that they add another dimension to the whole story telling process. You can either use the play sets while reading the story or as independent play. One of the favourite bedtimes stories at the moment is Hansel and Gretel, so it seemed only fitting to make a Hansel and Gretel play set.
Make sure you follow my book board in Pinterest for more ideas. Don’t forget to save the pin for later.
* I found some sweet mache houses on sale at Hobbycraft.
I made our play set, but you can use items that you have at home, such as dolls house figures, shoeboxes etc.
I painted 5 figures (the Dad, Hansel, Gretel, Step-mum, and the witch) and the houses, and added some buttons to be the set to be the breadcrumbs.
I’ve left this out on the side, as an invitation to play, for BB. We have also used it as props while I read the story and BB acted it out with the figures.
If you enjoyed this Hansel and Gretel play set be sure to check out my Miffy story puppet books, nursery rhyme puppets, and perfect den to read in.
