The 2019 Honda CR-V Hybrid has to be the ultimate family friendly SUV on the market. That’s a big opening statement we know, but having used the car as part of family life for over a week, we feel fully qualified in making such a bold claim.
It’s no secret that Honda’s CR-V is the world’s best-selling SUV and this latest Hybrid evolution of the model makes life feel so much sweeter. It’s good to know that being mobile in such a big vehicle can now be environmentally friendly as well as super-comfortable for all the family on both long and short journeys.
The Honda CR-V offers outstanding efficiency, making use of advanced hybrid powertrain technology and two electric motors with a 2.0 litre petrol engine. The benefit of investing in a hybrid vehicle is lower fuel consumption and lower emissions of CO2. What’s really nifty about the hybrid is that you don’t need to plug it in to charge the batteries used, the car recharges itself via regenerative braking and by the internal combustion engine.
We were surprised at just how quiet and smooth the Hybrid is to drive, whilst still feeling powerful, responsive and quick to manoeuvre.
The car’s advanced technology really does think for itself. Honda like to call this the ‘multi-mode drive’. Depending on the situation, the car will switch between one of three modes. When higher speeds are achieved, the petrol engine kicks in, while most of the time, it’s the electric engine doing all the work.
The sporty exterior of the CR-V Hybrid doesn’t fail to impress. The vehicle boasts Honda’s familiar silhouette but with a new fresh and sophisticated design. This generation of the SUV is much more muscular in appearance, and includes broader wheel arches, sharper contours on the bonnet and rear quarters as well as larger whees and tyres which means more interior space.
Honda have placed a huge focus on interior quality with a particular emphasis on spaciousness. You’ll find beautifully stitched leather interiors with a premium wood-effect trim on the door cards and lower section of the dashboard in upper grade models. There’s a central touchscreen and 7 inch Driver Information Interface visible through the steering wheel.
There’s ample room in the front and back of the vehicle, so attaching hefty rear facing car seats presents no compromise on leg space for the driver and front seat passenger. We often find that SUVs lack interior space, which can be very uncomfortable in terms of front seat leg room once car seats are installed.
The CR-V offers owners a huge boot with loading bay. It’s wide and deep enough to easily accommodate your weekly shop AND a bulky double buggy.
The huge panoramic sunroof spans across the front and rears seats and proved a huge hit with my two-year old daughter who smiled in disbelief when it opened above her head.
The CR-V offers full smartphone integration – drivers use the Sat Nav, make calls, send and receive messages and listen to music all via the touchscreen or by voice command.
This generation of SUV is even safer than previous models thanks to new body construction and enhanced safety features. Honda’s comprehensive suite of safety features called ‘Honda Sensing ‘ is included which encompasses the following:
Honda’s CR-V Hybrid with its low emissions makes it a much better choice for the environment. Lower fuel usage means lower fuel costs – so less of a drain on your pocket.
The SUV’s smooth and responsive drive is supported by the best in technology when it comes to safety, connectivity and entertainment. It’s also a car that certainly looks the part: we love the sporty masculine appearance of the vehicle and lux feel of the interiors.
It’s by no means an occasional use vehicle, but one that’s suited to a busy family life. This SUV ticks every box in terms of day-to-day family requirements and is a truly fantastic choice of family-friendly vehicle for a environmentally friendly future.
