How To Make a Bouncy Balls from Slime

I don’t think I have come across a child that doesn’t enjoy making or playing with slime. EC and YC are always asking to make some sort of it.  Technically these bouncy balls aren’t slime, but they are made using the same things.

Make sure you follow my slime board on Pinterest for more ideas, and don’t forget to save it for later.

To make your own bouncy balls from slime you will need:

  • ½ cup of warm water
  • 1 tbls of Borax* – the best place to buy this is on eBay
  • 1 tbls of corn flour
  • Food colouring
  • 2 tbls of PVA glue
  • 2 bowls

* Please supervise children when using Borax as it is an irritant if inhaled.

In the first bowl mix the warm water and borax and mix it together.

In the second bowl mix the glue, corn flour, and a few drops of food colouring.

Make sure that you get all the lumps of corn flour out so that you have a smooth mixture.

Spoon all the glue mixture into the water with the borax in. This should make it harder.

Scoop it out and use your hands to start moulding it into a ball. If it becomes sticky then place it back into the water/borax for a few more seconds.

The longer you handle it, the firmer it becomes. My top tip is that when you first take it out keep it so that the softer glue underneath breaks through the skin that has formed. It makes a much smoother ball in the end.

These balls literally take about 5 minutes to make and they really do bounce. Of course they are not like the store bought bouncy ball kits, but they do bounce and they are fun. YC and I spent about 10 minutes playing catch with it on the kitchen floor. That was before EC decided he wanted to try and steal it.

Store the bouncy ball in a zip lock bag, if you don’t then it will begin to harden after a few hours.
