There is this campfire song that I learnt while I was working for Disney Cruise Line, we use to have big campfire style sing outs, called The Princess Pat. It was one of my favourite repeat after me songs that we sang. It is basically about the Princess Pat who saves the Captain Jack (and his mighty fine crew) with this rick-a-bamboo. YC and I spent a lot of the summer singing this song and decided that we needed to make ourselves one just in case, because the song says that if you are on a ship without one your ship will sink like the Captain Jack!
You will need:
Now the song states goes:
A Rickabamboo,
Now what is that?
It’s something made,
By the Princess Pat.
It’s red and gold,
And purple too.
That’s why is called,
A Rickabamboo.
So for this project you can use anything to decorate your stick as long as it is red, gold and purple. We actually had limited craft supplies (Shock I know!) while doing this, and only had access to paint, wool, chalk and pastels.
YC and I went off for a really lovely walk to find the perfect stick to turn into our rickabamboo. When we found them we did try to take the bark off so that we were left with a much smoother stick, but it was rather tricky to do that.
As it was such a gorgeous day YC and I took our craft outside to do.
This was a really sweet craft to do and YC and I couldn’t help but sing the song as we made our Rick-a-bamboo. Here is a link to the song if you want to learn it (although they are missing the final verse), and yes it should be sung with that much enthusiasm.
