The Maxi-Cosi Coral infant car seat has just launched and in short, it’s pretty special.
Maxi-Cosi is a pioneer when it comes to children’s car seats, and one of the most trusted go-to brands when it comes to safety. This year, they’ve already wowed us with the launch of the new Maxi-Cosi Mica, and now it’s time for us to turn our attention to the Coral, the i-Size compliant seat suitable from birth to 12 months of age.
The Coral is a new revolutionary infant car seat with an integrated baby seat. Its innovative two-part modular system consists of an ‘outer’ car seat shell with a detachable ultra-light ‘inner’ carrier complete with retractable straps.
The inner carrier locks easily into the intuitive safety shell, which can be clicked on the ISOFIX base for easy installation.
With this Maxi-Cosi car seat, you’re given two options: to take the entire seat out of the car or to simply remove the detachable soft carrier cradling your newborn.
The seat’s impressive split functionality means you can carry your baby closer to you. The carrier weighs in at just 1.7kg, and it can be used in multiple ergonomic carrying positions so you can carry your baby to and from the car with complete ease.
The carrier includes a really luxurious Baby-hugg inlay designed to offer your newborn the Maxi-cosiest ride.
There’s also a 3-point harness with one-pull tightening system, they’ve made everything so simple to use.

The Coral comes complete with an easy-to-adjust extra-large UV 50+ sun canopy which attaches to the safety shell and can be used on most Maxi-Cosi strollers too.
As you’d expect, the Coral’s seat cover is machine washable, as kids do tend to be at their messiest in their first year of life!
Maxi-Cosi’s FamilyFix3 base connects easily to the ISOFIX anchors in your car. All you have to do is click the Coral onto the base and you’re all set. If there are no ISOFIX anchorage points in your car, the Coral can also be installed using only a seat belt.
You can leave the safety shell of the Coral in the car attached to the base while you use the seat’s soft carrier. The seat’s clever modular designs allows you to lift your baby ergonomically out of the safety shell situated in the car with just one hand.
Detaching and re-attaching the carrier in and out of the safety shell is also super-easy. There are audio-visual indicators that confirm correct and safe usage for extra peace of mind.
The Coral is set to be a game-changer for parents across the UK and beyond. As a bit of a weakling, to say the least, I’ve always found infant car seats to be incredibly heavy to lift and negotiate, and with a fresh C-sec scar, near on impossible to load onto the chassis of a buggy.
Winner of the Innovation Award at the 2019 Kind & Jugend international nursery trade fair, the Coral reduces carrying weight by a staggering 50%. As a C-section mama of two, I WISH this had been invented a couple of years!
