Halloween Moving Eyes Pictures

I saw these moving eyes pictures from Pink Stripey Socks a few years ago.  They immediately made me think of the portraits and busts in Disney’s The Haunted Mansion ride.  So of course, I had to give them a go with my charges, and I think you’ll agree they make a marvellous addition to your Halloween decorations.

Make sure you follow my Halloween board on Pinterest for more ideas.  Don’t forget to save the pin for later.

To make your own moving eyes pictures you will need:

  • Cardboard/cereal box
  • Pens/pencils/paint
  • Scissors/craft knife
  • Tape

Start by cutting a piece of cardboard into a rectangle.  Mine was just smaller than A4 sized.  You will also need another longer thinner piece for the eyes.  This should be wider than the piece that you will draw your picture on.  Then you will need to make two bits of cardboard that will hold the thinner piece in place.

On your rectangular piece draw and decorate your picture.  We added a boarder to ours to be the frame of the picture.  Don’t forget you will need to cut out the holes for the eyes.

Take the long thin piece or card and put it behind your piece that you have draw the picture on.  Line it up with the holes that you have cut out for the eyes.  Then draw your eyes onto the long thin piece.

Turn the picture onto the back and using the two extra bits of cardboard secure the long thin piece to the back.  It will need to be able to move from side to side.
