Moving Home When Pregnant? The Do’s and Don’ts…

Moving home and becoming pregnant are both major events in their own right. Moving is considered one of life’s most stressful events, but with a little planning, you can help reduce the stress of your move.

Hire A Mover, a trusted Australian removals company offer up their top six tips to take into account when moving home if you’re pregnant:

Preparation is key

Don’t leave things to the last minute. We recommend people start preparing for their move a few months out and use a checklist to ensure you don’t forget anything. To move properly takes considerable planning and if left too late, will become extremely stressful. The first thing we recommend is to prepare comprehensive list of everything that will need to be done prior to and after big moving day.

Get help de-clutting and packing your goods.

When pregnant, you do not want to be doing too much physical work and certainly under any circumstances do not want to be doing any heavy lifting. Moving is a great time to get rid of unwanted furniture and things you no longer use such as old clothes and broken electronics that have been sitting in drawers and cupboards for years. We recommend donating old clothes, toys and books to charity. We recommend to order a skip bin for outside your house so you can get rid of unwanted furniture and the like. Packing can take considerable time so we recommend treating yourself to a professional packing service. You would be surprised how much 2 packers can pack in a 4 or 5 hour period. You don’t move all the time, and especially not when pregnant, so why not treat yourself to a professional packing service.

Hire boxes instead of buying them

Hiring boxes mean that after you move and unpack your boxes, the box company will come and pick them up so you don’t have to worry about getting rid of the boxes. It is also cheaper than buying them and great for the environment. Don’t forget to order heaps of butchers paper and bubble wrap for your delicate items.

Use a reputable removal company

So often we hear people complain their movers caused damage and didn’t want to know about it after the move. You want professional and friendly movers that know how to move your furniture safely, and if anything out of the ordinary does happen, then you want to make sure they will take responsibility and help you resolve any issues. It’s important to check they have removals insurance.

Consider using unpackers

Consider using unpackers once you have arrived at your new home. They can help you settle in quickly and are pretty good at arranging rooms as they do it for a living. It also means you can relax and try not upset the little bubba.

Correct lifting technique

If you do have to move any boxes or furniture yourself, please ensure you using a correct lifting technique. Bend your knees and keep your back straight. Under no circumstances should you lift anything heavy or anything that is difficult to carry. We recommend that by using professional removals and packing companies. You can sit back and relax on the sofa and let the professionals do the hard work.
