School-Home Support (SHS)

SHS Practitioners have identified over 700 pupils who do not have access to personal hygiene products. Some go to school without having a shower and without socks and underwear because their families cannot afford basic personal care and hygiene items. Period poverty affects girls from poorer families, often leaving girls feeling they have no option but to miss school every month.

Without these essential items, it is difficult for children to be totally focused on their learning. This is where we would love your help.

By donating to this campaign, your generous gift will allow our SHS Practitioners to purchase products such as sanitary items, face masks, shampoo, body wash, deodorant, socks and underwear, for students who they have identified as most in need. Our Practitioners have trusting relationships with these families and so are able to identify and purchase exactly what they need.

Wonder Wave Cards

We are Wave and we teach mindfulness to children aged two-and-a-half to sixteen, both in person and virtually. Our techniques help children with managing anxiety, confidence, resilience, emotions, self-esteem, focus and stress. We – Ella Richards (mama of three) and Gemma Deighton (mama of two) – created Wave in 2018, after practicing mindfulness ourselves and reaping its vast rewards. This realisation steered us towards Christiane Kerr’s brilliant course on the benefits of mindfulness for children. The difference we saw in our own children inspired us to develop mindfulness programmes in schools, nurseries, workshops and private classes.

Why Wave?

The name Wave comes from a quote by Mindfulness guru Jon Kabat Zinn: ‘You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn how to surf’.

The sentiment here is that, although we cannot control the ups and downs of life, we can use mindfulness to control our reactions to these waves. As adults, we are still reeling from the impact of the last eighteen months. We can only begin to imagine how our children are processing the world right now. Although teaching in person has been tricky, we’ve spent lockdown creating tools to be used by both parents and childcare professionals to encourage and support our children’s mindfulness journeys.

Wave Wonder Cards.

These glorious affirmation cards are profoundly useful in helping children to connect with what their emotions are and why they are feeling that way. The cards encourage children to realise that all feelings – good or bad – are welcome. They’re also a great tool for parents to gently assess their child’s emotional wellbeing. We recommend encouraging the child to pick a card that resonates with them and reading the affirmation aloud each morning and evening for a week. This then becomes a mantra that allows the release of any negative emotions. Each card has an explanation on the back, along with suggestions and tips of how to build on the affirmation. The Dalia Lama once said that ‘If you don’t love yourself, you cannot love others.’ Wave Wonder Cards are a great way to focus on inspiring confidence, self-love and self-acceptance.

Breathwork journeys and meditations

The breath is our superpower and we always begin and end our Wave classes with breathwork and a guided meditation. The concept of breath can be tricky for children to grasp, as it cannot be seen or touched. We use specific games and activities to help children understand how the breath can calm the mind, nourish the body and change the mood. At Wave, we have developed seven principle breathwork and meditation tools to assist with focus, sleep, anger, confidence, resilience and anxiety, along with a bedtime ritual to instil calm and aid a good night’s sleep. These journeys are available as downloadable audio files and consist of individual breath work technique alongside a complementary guided meditation, each from five to ten minutes long.

Come and join us!

We are thrilled to be teaching children in person again. Please check out our website for all information on upcoming classes and evets. You’ll find Wave Wonder Cards along with breathwork and meditation tools in the shop section.

With love and peace, Ella & Gemma x

ANIMA is a cafe and community-based wellness space for families and children opening this July in the heart of Parson’s Green. RefugEase

RefugEase are a small ’n’ mighty UK-based charity. Their mission is to help those fleeing conflict to give them futures worth working towards. We focus our activities on three main areas: humanitarian aid, education and empowerment and crisis awareness.

Last year, Brexit and Covid-19 made our traditional aid deliveries from the UK to Europe and the Middle East much more difficult, timely and expensive. In response, we developed our online aid shop which allows people to buy aid items directly for refugees on the ground. Simply purchase an aid item such as a coat or family food parcel and we employ refugees to buy and distribute the items locally. It’s quicker, cheaper and it supports local economies.

For Refugee Week (14th – 20th June), tech repair company MacMan has very generously agreed to match all purchases made in our aid shop – effectively doubling the amount of aid we’ll be able to distribute. So, if you purchase one pair of shoes this week – we’ll be able to buy two!
