My 1st Years is Relaunching

My 1st Years, the leading brand for personalised children’s toys, accessories and gifts is relaunching following a heartbreaking £15m fire that destroyed its office, factory and all of its products in May 2021. The company, whose fame exploded after Prince George wore one of their personalised robes when meeting Barack Obama in April 2016, will relaunch with a complete brand refresh, new products, new look and website.

My 1st Years has taken advantage of the devastating fire to build back a better business with new product ranges, enhanced designs, better (and new) fabrics and the option of sustainable, eco packaging. The brand has also had a total rebrand with a new logo, new brand colour, fresh photography, a new website and a redesign of its iconic packaging.

The brand is playful, aspirational, personal and all about celebrations – a personalised gift is the ultimate way to mark an important milestone in a little one’s life whether it’s wonderful wobbly steps or a special first birthday wish.

Graco Collaboration with Halfords and Dadsnet

Car seat manufacturer, Graco is on a mission to help parents achieve the ultimate goal – a happy car journey with their kids.

Featuring Dadsnet ‘genius’ dad hacks and with Halfords support, Graco’s Car Seat Safety microsite includes advice, informative videos and the most salient safety messages via a memorable H.A.P.P.Y acronym.

Graco has devised the five-step ‘H.A.P.P.Y’ safety checker for every parent or caregiver to sanity check and stay calm before setting off.

H.A.P.P.Y safety checks:

H: Harness & Handlebar

The harness should always be equal / level with the child’s shoulders. 1 in 10 of Graco’s followers travel with the harness / headrest too high. For Group 0+/i-Size infant carriers the handlebar must be upright, as it acts as a secondary safety measure in the event of an accident. 35 per cent of Graco’s social media followers admit to travelling with the handle down.

A: Airbag

6 per cent or Graco’s followers do not deactivate the front passenger seat air bag when travelling with a child rear facing in an infant carrier. It is a legal requirement to deactivate the air bag when rear facing for your child’s safety. You must always check the car vehicle manual and the car seat instruction manual. Graco recommends children under the age of 12 do not travel in the front passenger seat.

P: Pinch test (you might know it as the two-finger rule)

To ensure the 5-point harness is secure, and not too loose, try to pinch the belt strap – if you can pinch it so the fabric bunches in your fingers, the harness is too loose. 60 per cent of Graco’s followers do not know about this simple test.

P: Passenger Side

Always position the youngest passenger behind the passenger seat. In the event of an accident, breakdown or when simply just parking your car, you are safer leaning in to remove the little one from the car while standing on the other side.

Y: Years, height or weight?

Keep checking your child is in the right seat for their height and weight – the age measure is only a suggested guide. There are two regulations in current use: R44 and R129. R44 regulated seats are grouped based on weight while R129 (i-Size) seats are defined on height. Check out this useful blog from Halfords which simplifies the process.

Emma Bunton reveals her wish list of the cutest, cosiest kit for little ones!

Emma Bunton, Spice Girl and co-founder of eco-friendly nursery brand Kit & Kin, is excited to reveal her wish list of the cutest, cosiest kit for little ones! Made from 100% organic cotton, Kit & Kin’s multi-award winning babywear range features the softest fabrics and adorable unisex designs to suit every little one.

Bunny Cardigan, £34.99

Topping the list is the brand’s bestselling bunny cardigan, the perfect layer for little ones as we head into the cooler months. ‘I adored working on this design with my team. I love everything about it,’ Emma says, ‘from the double-breasted buttons and the super soft fabric, to the adorable bunny ears. It’s an Autumn staple and I’m obsessed.’

Bear hat, £19.99

Spilling the beans on her go-to gift, Emma has also revealed that the brand’s super cute bear hat is a frequent feature in her shopping basket. She says: ‘Our gorgeous bear hat is something I always gift to my friends who are having babies. It’s been designed to keep tiny heads comfy because the material is really breathable. And I love the little ears for max cuteness factor.’

Alphabet all in one, £23.99

The co-founder has also confessed that her favourite Kit & Kin onesie is the alphabet print all-in-one. ‘I can’t recommend this onesie enough because it has a very clever design, even if I do say so myself!’ Emma adds, ‘it’s perfect for day to night wear with fold-over feet and mitts, as well as an easy zip up front which is so important for those night-time changes in the dark! The organic cotton fabric is incredibly soft so it’s kind on your little one’s skin, and the alphabet print is just beautiful. Love love love!’

Dreammaker Baby Sleep Aid, tommee tippee™

Trusted baby brand Tommee Tippee has launched the new Dreammaker, a scientifically proven light and sound sleep aid that recreates the environment of everyone’s first ‘home’, the womb. With pink noise, a red light and a pulsing glow, the Dreammaker’s design is rooted firmly in science. Developed in a world-leading sleep laboratory by sleep scientists at Northumbria University, the Dreammaker is a patent-pending sleep aid that not only relaxes your baba but lulls them into a peacefully deep and longer sleep.

How does the Dreammaker work?

Pink noise mimics the natural sounds of the womb, offering your baby a comforting and familiar background noise.

Its red light soothes and promotes the production of melatonin, without disturbing your baby’s sleep (or yours for that matter!) once asleep. Dreammaker has a pulsing glow of soft light that mimics the slow, deep breaths of baby’s relaxed breathing rate, to help calm your baby and send them off to the land of nod.

Dreammaker is a smart piece of kit, combining Intelligent CrySensor technology that listens out for baby’s cries during the night and automatically turns the device back on to soothe them back to sleep. It’s also USB powered and super easy to use. Simply double-tap the ring on the top of the product and select the light, sound and pulse settings to suit your preferences. The device must be connected to the mains to function.

The Tommee Tippee Dreammaker is available to purchase from the end of September at RRP £29.99 via Amazon, Argos, John Lewis and Boots, as well as directly from www.tommeetippee.com.

Silver Cross Car Seat Recycling Service

As part of its ongoing efforts to become even more sustainable, Silver Cross is the first and only brand to offer its customers a car seat recycling service, which will launch during Recycle Week 2021.

For safety reasons, car seats cannot be sold or passed on for second-hand use, so the new Silver Cross recycling service will stop them from ending up in landfill at the end of their life span.
From September 23, Silver Cross customers who no longer need their car seat can book a collection for it to be recycled free of charge. At the recycling plant, the team use specialist lasers to separate the recyclable materials, which can then be used in the production of other products and packaging across a variety of industries – with absolutely nothing going to landfill.

Toy Of The Week

Keepsake Dolls, Kaloo

The iconic soft toy brand, Kaloo, is delighted to offer an extensive range of adorable keepsake dolls, that are sure to be treasured for years to come. Ideal from birth and made from the softest materials, the Tendresse doll collection will comfort little ones as they grow, soon becoming the star of any imaginative play, whilst looking right at home in a nursery from day one.

Book Of The Week

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, By L. Frank Baum

A deluxe gift edition of L. Frank Baum’s cherished children’s classic, vividly reimagined with beautiful four-color artwork and nine interactive features created by MinaLima, the award-winning design studio behind the graphics for the Harry Potter film franchise.

One of the most-read children’s books, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a staple of American literature and the inspiration for the beloved 1939 Academy Award-winning movie (widely acclaimed as one of the greatest films of all time), as well as stage plays and musicals.

Trixie the Treat Monster, by Julie Derrick

Hoping to both demystify the effects of OCD on families and equip them with a way to help children combat obsessive thoughts, author Julie Derrick has just launched her new children’s book Trixie the Treat Monster. Following on from Hank the Hungry Monster, Trixie the Treat Monster is the second book in Julie’s Mind Monsters series and explores how distraction methods can be a powerful tool to help children fight intrusive thoughts. Julie is dedicated to raising awareness about OCD, having experienced its impact within her own family when her daughter developed the condition in her early teens. 50% of all proceeds made from the book will be donated to the Community Intensive Therapy Team (CITT).

Trixie the Treat Monster tells the story of Leo who is about to take a penalty shot but can’t bring himself to kick the ball without first completing the counting ritual that power-hungry monster Hank tells him he needs to do. Wanting to help Leo break free of this behaviour, Trixie the Treat Monster plays Hank’s own game against him and uses rewards to encourage Leo to try things without counting first. At the same time, Leo’s best friend Emily helps him to open up and talk about his inner fears.
