This Christmas, women’s health charity Wellbeing of Women are supporting vulnerable pregnant women. Through the Big Give Christmas Challenge they are raising money to fund vital research focused on improving outcomes for vulnerable pregnant women who have experienced trauma such as domestic abuse, childhood trauma, sexual violence or who are experiencing homelessness.
Lifestyle and environmental factors have a huge effect on the health and wellbeing of women during pregnancy, and vulnerable and disadvantaged women are particularly at risk of birth complications and the development of mental health issues after birth.
Receiving the right maternity care and support can hugely impact the health of mothers and their babies. Thousands of women and babies across the UK need support to get the best start in life.
Wellbeing of Women is funding several projects to support vulnerable and disadvantaged women, such as midwife Joanne Cull’s study into how maternity services can support the 250,000 pregnant women in the UK each year who have experienced trauma. The findings could help these women receive more tailored support, improve pregnancy outcomes and start the baby’s life on a positive trajectory.

Smile Train’s Big Christmas Carol Concert is taking place at The Grosvenor Chapel in Mayfair, London, from 7 pm–9 pm on Thursday 8th December.
The event is always hugely popular, where members of the public are invited to join Smile Train staff, beneficiaries, and supporters for an evening of festive hymns, mince-pies, and refreshments – in the chapel where the popular Christmas rom-com, Love Actually, was filmed!
All monies from the Christmas Carols Concert will go towards the global children’s charity Smile Train, which provides children with free cleft repair surgery and comprehensive cleft care.
