This Spring, Cancer Research UK is encouraging people to Walk All Over Cancer by taking 10,000 steps a day throughout March to raise money for life-saving research. Those taking part can be as creative as they like to rack up the daily step count, whether that’s doing conference calls on the go, exploring new places in the local area or doing laps of a garden.
There are lots of benefits to regular walking too; it can help maintain a healthy weight, burn calories and help tone and strengthen muscles. Walking can also be a stress reliever and could help with mental health and wellbeing – something more important than ever during the pandemic.
To put it in context – based on the average person’s stride – 10,000 steps is around five miles or eight kilometres, so by the end of the month walkers taking on the challenge will have covered 150 miles, which is about the distance from London to Manchester, or Paris to Brussels!
Everyone can go at their own pace, and even get friends and family to take part themselves too for a bit of friendly competition. Every pound raised will make a difference in helping to fund vital research for people affected by cancer. To sign up and receive a free fundraising pack, plus walking routes and top tips for the challenge, visit Cancer Reaserch UK.
