Back at the beginning of November we went to a Christmas fair and one of the activities they had for the kids was making bags of reindeer food. The bags had oats in and is for them to put out on Christmas Eve for Santa’s reindeer. It was a really cute activity and made me think of doing a smaller reindeer food Christmas decoration for the tree.
Make sure you follow my Christmas board on Pinterest for more ideas. Don’t forget to save the pin for later.
*I got the ones for ours from Hobby Craft, they do a pack of 5.
We had some little gift tags that were perfect for this craft, but you can easily make your own with some paper. To add a bit more character to them we painted ours with tea to give it that aged look.
Use your stamp on the front of the bag. If you don’t have any stamps and ink, then pens will work just as well.
Stuff your bag with cotton wool to pad it out. I did originally think of putting oats in it but thought that might be too tempting for the dog. Plus, it wouldn’t be great to put them into storage with oats in.
When your little tag has dried, add the name for your reindeer. Santa’s 9 reindeer are called: Dancer, Dasher, Vixen, Prance, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, and Rudolph. A fun fact for you, Donner and Blitzen’s original names are Dunder and Blixem. Which are the original Dutch names used in Clement Clarke Moore’s “A Night Before Christmas.”
Finally attach the name tag to the bag and you are all set to put them onto your Christmas tree.
