Restaurant Review: Family-Friendly Bill’s Treats Mums To A Free Dessert This Mother’s Day

Bill’s restaurants are treating mums to a free dessert on Mother’s Day, so we took the kids along to the Guildford restaurant to check out how family-friendly the popular restaurant chain is and to critique their amazing dessert menu ahead of Mother’s Day.

Bill’s Treats Mums To A Free Dessert This Mother’s Day

This Sunday, 19th March, mums will be able to indulge in a complimentary sweet treat in the form of one of the delightful desserts on the menu at Bill’s when ordering a main course. We took our fam of 4 plus the mother-in-law along to Bill’s in Guildford to test out the menu and to report back on how kid-friendly the restaurant is. Oh, and of course, to check out the desserts.

Bill’s at 1 Angel Gate, Guildford, is nestled away within a charming courtyard situated halfway up the town’s cobbled high street. Bill’s is a bustling restaurant full of diners of all ages and walks of life. With colourful walls and rustic interiors, Bill’s in Guildford is equally a great spot for a cosy family lunch or more formal date night meal. With its vaulted ceilings, mood lighting, and funky decor, it’s a vibrant and interesting place to take the kids.

Family-friendly menu

Bill’s doesn’t have the biggest menu, but for me, that’s a sign of a great restaurant. They pack in an excellent variety of dishes, and what they do, they do really well. With all-day brunch every day of the week and bottomless options available at weekends, daily bottomless pancakes between 3-5 pm, seasonal specials and set-menu dinners, you’re spoilt for choice. There are juices for kids and cocktails, smoothies, wines, beers and spirits, so there’s a tipple every mama will love.

What did we eat?

My husband and I had the most amazing chicken and sesame dumplings with a spicy sauce to start, while my mother-in-law enjoyed spice crab cakes with chilli. Full marks all round for the starters. There aren’t any starters on the kids’ menu, so their mains arrived at the same time as our first course. The kids’ menu offers all the usual meals you’d expect, from sausages and fish fingers to buttermilk chicken strips with sides of chips and peas or baked beans.

My kids loved that dinner arrived on a fairly small plate, with a decent-sized portion that wasn’t overwhelming. The beans and chips arrived on the plate in separate little cups, which was a novelty that went down well with my 3- and 5-year-old.

Bill’s restaurant was jam-packed with happy diners, so we waited a little while for our mains to come, but the kids were well-behaved and busy tucking into their meals, so it wasn’t a problem. My husband ordered the buttermilk chicken burger – which arrived in a portion size he was very happy with, while I went for the delicious chicken shawarma and my veggie mother-in-law the halloumi shawarma.

Polishing off their meals fairly quickly, the kids moved on to their desserts – the chocolate mousse – which they both thoroughly enjoyed, and luckily we had a pack of wet wipes on hand to remove all evidence of that before we left. Us adults, being two courses down, were fit to burst and ironically had to skip dessert, but the puds on offer were so tempting I might book back in this Mother’s Day to enjoy what I missed on Saturday. The cinnamon doughnuts with choc sauce would have been my dessert of choice.

Desserts at Bill’s restaurant

Bill’s restaurant has a range of mouth-watering desserts for the perfect Mother’s Day treat. I always rate a restaurant by whether they have fresh profiteroles on the menu, and yep, Bill’s ticks this box with a portion to share. Other desserts you’ll find it hard to choose from are the famous Bill’s Flowerpot, a strawberry cheesecake with chocolate soil, fresh strawberries and edible flower, spiced apple and mincemeat crumble, filled with spiced apple and mincemeat, served with vanilla custard and clotted cream ice cream. If that’s not enough, also available is the salted caramel brownie pot, banoffee cheesecake pot, triple chocolate brownie with warm chocolate sauce and dulce de leche and a chocolate and salted caramel tart served with coconut ice cream. Hungry yet?!

Book Bill’s now

A huge thumbs up for a Mother’s Day celebration this Sunday at Bill’s restaurants nationwide. We recommend booking in advance because if Guildford’s restaurant is anything to go by, Bill’s is always busy, so if your name’s not on the list, you’re probably not getting in.
