On this day in 1969 Apollo 11 launched commander Neil Armstrong and lunar module pilot Buzz Aldrin into space, landing on the surface of the moon at 20.17 on 20th July. Neil Armstrong was the first man to step foot on the moon just six hours later in the early hours of 21st July.
