“I can’t find any breastfeeding tops! Anything I get is either horrid material, a sack or really stretchy and rouched. I didn’t wear much maternity specific clothes, instead opted for bigger sizes in my usual style. With this in mind, I called on our fashion guru Sam Jones to point us in the right direction. I want to feel like I still care about how I look and need a few looks with easy access. I can honestly say that I would love to wear any of these stylish solutions whether I’m breastfeeding or not!” – Leonora
As every mother will know, breastfeeding is a completely unique experience. Whether you’re lucky enough to have a long and blissful experience with your baba and your boob, or whether each feed is an emotional battle of latching on, back arching and 30 second feeds, one thing we ALL have in common are the trials and tribulations of appropriate clothing for unleashing our lactating bosoms. What can we wear to make it easier for us, particularly whilst out and about, without compromising too much on the style stakes?
Here’s The Style Alchemy‘s guide for breastfeeding mamas!
You’re probably already living in shirts, so it’s just as well that shirting is at the top of the style game right now. There are so many silhouettes out there, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Easy to unfasten, effortlessly chic – what’s not to love?
Here are some of my favourites:
They’re making a come back and thank goodness for that. V-necks are gloriously flattering, not to mention practical, especially for those busts that are ‘bursting at the seams’.
TIE FRONT FRONT DRESSES
These are genius. Not specifically designed for breastfeeding of course, but they couldn’t be more perfect!
BUTTON FRONT DRESSES
Whilst you have a cleavage to be proud of, make sure you show it off! Button front dresses are a great summer addition to your wardrobe and provide super easy access!
Cardigans have become ‘a thing’. Worn as a top, the cardigan is making a come back and just perfect for discreetly whipping out a nipple on demand. Opt for a shorter length to wear with high waist trousers or jeans, or a longer length worn with pretty midi skirts or over jeans, cinched at the waist with a belt.
