For many parents, looking to the future is something that’s a priority when deciding on an expensive purchase such a stroller. We take a closer look at Swedish brand Thule and their stroller the Thule Sleek, which promises the ultimate stroller in terms of future proofing for your family.
The Sleek is a stylish stroller designed for city adventurers and urban living. Built to manoeuvre busy city streets thanks to its lightweight construction, fairly compact size and front swivel wheels, it does so while providing its passengers with a super-comfortable ride.
The Thule Sleek is a convertible stroller suitable from birth with bassinet. The stroller is able to transform from a single into a tandem for twins or siblings close in age. Parents can attach different seats to the chassis depending on their individual needs as a family.
Thule sell parts separately, giving you the freedom to add on what you need and when. There’s even the option of catering for a third, older chid with their stroller board.
Thule realise the importance of being truly mobile with a newborn. The Sleek operates as a travel system, andcan be used with an infant car seat in single or tandem mode, with adaptors for Maxi Cosi and Chicco car seats.
The Sleek’s design is pretty intuitive. The build is clever and refuses to compromise in any mode or seating option. For instance, when using the upper seat, the canopy doesn’t obscure the handlebar. The generous storage basket stays put and is readily accessible in all modes. With two children on board you’ll be carrying twice the luggage, so the storage basket is always a priority.
The stroller’s soft, padded seat unit is made from removable and washable fabrics. The seat secures your child via an adjustable 5-point harness complete with padded straps. The toddler seat itself offers an upright position perfect for inquisitive toddlers. The upright positioning of the upper seat also allows you to keep your youngest child as close to you – you won’t feel as though the bassinet is sitting on the floor.
There is scope to recline the stroller seat when used in double mode, via a one-hand recline lever on the back of the seat.
The decent sized canopy with fold-out UPF 50+ sun visor protects against all weathers, and can be altered as your baby grows, allowing more head height. The meshed panel within the canopy means your little one can keep cool in the heat. The peek-a-boo window closes magnetically, allowing you to view your baby without disturbing them.
Thule’s flexible design adjusts as your child grows. The adjustable leg rest provides additional comfort for your growing baba. The adjustable handlebar provides an extra 8.5 inches of room, creating more space behind the stroller for taller parents. The seat’s bumper bar cleverly rotates to the side so you can access your child with ease.
The Sleek’s durable foam filled rubber tyres mean you won’t ever have to worry about the risk of punctures, while the shock-absorbing 4-wheel suspension offers little ones the ultimate in smooth sailing. The wheels are fairly big in size, the back measure in at 11 inches and the front come in at 8 inches. The wheels have reflective rims so the stroller is visible if you’re up early or heading somewhere after dark. They can even be removed once the buggy is collapsed for easier storage.
The stroller offers a compact fold with auto lock. This can be done with or without the seat in single mode. We found it much easier to transport and store without the seat attached, and obviously with bassinet involved, things naturally become a little trickier, with parts needing to be removed before collapse.
The Thule isn’t as long as most tandem double strollers, but once two seats are attached it is naturally a bigger beast to manoeuvre. The stroller’s lightweight aluminium chassis goes someway to make up for that, especially when used as a single.
It’s worth noting there are slightly different weight limits for each attachment: the regular seat’s capacity is 48.5lbs, with sibling seat being 33lbs. The weight limit for the bassinet is 19.5lbs.
Thule’s mantra is to help you transport anything you care for safely, easily and in style so that you are free to live a full and active lifestyle. The Thule Sleek is certainly no exception.
Thule have painstakingly thought of everything when it comes to the design of this stroller, in relation to all the possible combinations a family might require. It’s the Sleek’s wide range of seating options that appeals to me most. For growing families, it’s a product definitely worth investing in.
