Date Night At Tortello: The NEW Chic West London Italian To Know

If your ideal date night involves excellent pasta, flattering lighting, a little people-watching and the sort of atmosphere that makes you sit up slightly straighter, then allow us to point you towards Tortello.

This stylish new neighbourhood Italian in Lancaster Gate has quietly opened its doors and is already building a reputation as one of West London’s chicest new openings, helped in no small part by its dreamy outdoor terrace overlooking Hyde Park’s Italian Gardens.

First Impressions: Romantic, Polished And Very West London

Tortello gets the mood exactly right. The interiors are elegant without feeling stuffy, with olive trees, warm lighting and thoughtful touches that nod to classic Italian charm without veering into themed-restaurant territory.

The whole place has that quietly confident London energy that suggests people have either discovered it already or very much want to, feeling super grown-up in the best possible way.

This is not chaotic central London dining or somewhere you’re grabbing a quick bite before rushing elsewhere. This is definitely the main event, settle-in, order-another-drink, make-an-evening-of-it sort of place. Exactly what date night should be.

The Food: Pasta First, Obviously

As the name might suggest, pasta is the hero here, with handmade pasta very much part of Tortello’s DNA. The restaurant takes its pasta seriously, using specialist Italian flour and traditional techniques — and you can tell. We kicked things off with bruschetta, because sometimes the classics simply don’t need reinventing.

Then came the standout of the evening: crab pasta. Fresh, rich and deeply satisfying, this was one of those dishes that causes conversation to pause while everyone quietly focuses on what’s happening on their fork.

We also opted for steak and chips, because you can’t really go wrong with that classic.

And then, for dessert, we shared the chocolate-and-almond torta with vanilla gelato, and it was pretty awesome. And also, date night without chocolate feels frankly irresponsible.

Is Tortello Good For Date Night?

We think so. If some London date night spots lean too noisy and chaotic, and others drift into intimidating special-occasion territory, Tortello strikes the sweet spot. It’s perfectly romantic without being overly formal. Lively enough to feel buzzy, but intimate enough that you can actually hear each other speak.

That Hyde Park Terrace…

A special mention for the outdoor terrace, which overlooks Hyde Park’s Italian Gardens, if you can swing it, and the weather’s right, it’s an unexpectedly dreamy setting for a summer evening. Aperitivo in the sunshine? Yes please.

And then of course, dinner followed by a Hyde Park stroll? Even better.

If you’re looking for a chic London Italian that feels romantic, polished and just the right amount of in the know, Tortello is well worth adding to your date night rotation. And you can’t miss the cute pistachio-green 1960s Fiat 500 right outside the loos. Selfie moment, thank you very much!
