Blooming Flower Activity

I feel that winter has gone on for the longest time this year, so it is nice to finally welcome spring.  What better way to celebrate than with a blooming flower activity.

Don’t forget to follow my seasonal crafts on Pinterest for more ideas.  Don’t forget to save the pin for later.

To do your own flower activity you will need:

  • Paper
  • Pens*
  • Scissors
  • Bowl of water

*You will need both washable and permanent markers for this.

On a piece of paper draw a circle then cut it out.

Fold the circle in half, half again, and then half again.

On that wedge draw a petal shape and cut it out (a bit like if you were doing a kirigami snowflake).

Open up your flower and decorate it.  If you don’t want the design to bleed out into the water, then use permanent markers.

When you have finished decorating the flowers fold the petals into the centre, you want to give it the illusion that the flower is closed.  This is important for the next part.

Fill a bowl/ tray/ sink with water.  I don’t think the temperature matters, but you could experiment to see if it does have an affect on how quickly they open.

Put your closed flowers into the water and watch as the petals slowly begin to open to reveal their designs.
