Not every activity needs to have elaborate set ups. In fact, in my experience, children are more likely to play with activities that you haven’t spent ages setting up. This ball transfer activity was an accidental set up. We were away over New Year and one of the toys I decided to pack were these plastic balls. NC is going through a stage of throwing things, so I like to have some balls around so that I can redirect her if necessary. While away I had stored these balls in a small wicker basket and there was also a much larger wicker basket in the living room area. NC loved to pour the balls from the small basket into the bigger basket. On one afternoon I decided to give her a big cooking spoon to pretend to cook the balls with. This turned into the activity of her transferring the balls from one basket and back again. I will add that she was sitting in the big basket while doing this.
Make sure you follow my activity board on Pinterest for more ideas. Don’t forget to save the pin for later.

Empty all the balls into one container and add a big spoon, then get your little one to transfer those balls to the other container and back again.

This activity is great for developing fine and gross motor skills, hand to eye coordination, focus, and independence. You can also adapt this activity for different ages. For older children you can use small balls and spoons or even switch it out for some tongs.
